Very good customer service. I wasn’t able to grow the mushrooms but they kept sending me replacements. Followed the directions: 1st time I used the tent and it molded, 2nd time it came super dry and now it is dry and looks like it wants to fruit but hasn’t and it’s been two weeks.

We followed the directions exactly - no mushrooms. Ideas? We’re starting again, with a soak and time in the fridge…

I bought this and thought I would get at least 1 good harvest of mushrooms… I followed the instructions exactly! I got only 3 mushrooms the first time and 2 the second go around. I tried a 3rd time and got 1 tiny one not worth picking. 5 mushrooms total. I’m very disappointed. For the price and my tim… Absolutely not worth the purchase.

This was my second Happy Caps mushroom kit, and while more challenging than the first kit I ordered (Lions Mane), this was still fun and the mushrooms were great to cook with.

I did everything as described but nothing happened... There was the white mold and the mushroom smell, it looked like something is clearly going on, but nothing grew. I waited for about three weeks, keeping it moist etc., but nope... Maybe the temperature wasn't the right, no clue...

I should have known this product was bogus when the first instruction is to drop it a foot to "simulate a tree falling in the forest." Funny, but meaningless. I have successfully grown mushrooms before using other methods, but I thought I'd try this simple product for shiitakes. Following the instructions to the letter, nothing happened. Even though many had the same complaint, I disregarded them, since I felt I could do it... After weeks, all I had was a dead spongy mass that hadn't really changed since I got it. I initiated a return, but then decided to experiment. Based on my past grows, and advice from another seller's kit instructions, I soaked the entire block (submerged with a weight on tool for 3-4 hours. Then I sliced the block in half lengthwise. It was completely devoid of any mycelium or growth at that point. I laid the two halves, cut side up, misted and covered loosely with plastic wrap. Finally, the mycelium grew to beautifully cover each half and they have now begun pinning! The mushrooms are on their way! Buy your kit from another Amazon seller, North Spore. Their products are excellent.

Got only for mushrooms then stopped growing

Came already fruiting, the packaging was beat up so the bottom fruited. So I throw it in my cutting tank to add co2. I like that I'll have fresh shitake mushrooms in like 2 days but I would have preferred to have a little more time to fruit from the a more selected location in my clean plex box for my window plants. I'd order another since I put this one in with my cuttings tank which is a bold move if you're new to this.The pins look very good, can't wait to fry in beef talon from a ribeye loin I saved add a bed of rice. Surprise your kids with something cool and give it a try.

I got two large (size of my hand) mushrooms on my first go using the package instructions and box it came in. Tasted really great too. The second bloom I made a mushroom box to put the block in. I got about 2lbs of mushrooms from that yield. The product is good but the instructions are too basic. If you were to include tips on building a mushroom box, customers would get much bigger yields and be a lot more satisfied. Instructions were not too clear on if you should open the bag and submerge it in water or submerge as is with bag on. It would have been great to include a few tips on how to grow larger heads, longer stems, different lighting results to give people a better guide.

I purchased this shiitake kit as a Christmas gift for my husband and an oyster kit for my daughter. I was pleased to find that they were produced in Canada. The company was very helpful when I need some advice. Even tho the volume of mushrooms was less than expected, they tasted wonderful fried in butter. And the next batch might be even better. Thanks, Andrew & Happy Caps, for introducing me to the fun of mushroom growing.

This is a pleasant surprise to me so far. I did as instructed and mushrooms began to sprout out of it within 24 hours of removing it from the fridge, even though the instructions say that they should appear within 10 days. I'll be harvesting them tomorrow because they are getting too big for the humidity tent provided which is a mere 9 days of growing. We'll see how it goes for the second growth but I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far. One thing though - the mushrooms are only growing out of one side - not sure why that would be.

I've grown oyster mushrooms before and never had trouble, so this kit surprised me that I never got a single mushroom from it. I followed the instructions to put it in the fridge for a day and give it a thump to get things growing, then watched it turn tan, brown, and eventually mold. The flimsy "tent" doesn't tent without inventing a system to hold it up, and the kit dried out regardless of how many times a day I misted it. The tent still had a lot of condensation so I'm not sure what happened with that. Eventually after a couple of weeks it grew green mold so it hit the compost pile.

Just like it says follow the instructions. In three days I had my first pop out the humidity bag they give you with it works okay but if you're to put it in a see-through plastic tote works a lot better... look up monotub on YouTube is how I made mine
