may help tinnitus
Empower ACTIVE Hearing Amplifier - PAIR - Both Ears - All Digital - Unique In The Ear Design - Volume Control - Background Noise Reduction - 4 Programs - Almost Invisible Several hearing tests over the past few years have shown a drop in my hearing at high frequencies, but no provider said my hearing was such that they could positively recommend hearing aids. However, I have had tinnitus for some years, and some research has shown that some people can benefit from amplifying high frequencies because their brains are providing such "noise" to compensate for the losses at these frequencies. I wanted to see if I was one of the people that might benefit from such amplification. Usually, I just occupy my thoughts with my work so there is no problem, but it would be nice if the tinnitus could be reduced. So far, using this product on Program Setting 1 -- high frequencies emphasized -- is doing what it supposed to do, and is seems to be reducing my tinnitus. I know I have 30 days to test this and I look forward to doing so.

I have had 4 sets of hearing aids and hated all of them
I have had 4 sets of hearing aids and hated all of them, although they worked as well as they should, I guess. One set I turned back because they made too much noise in my ear. One set with rechargeable batteries no longer works and the company no longer has a dealer in my area. Other two sets I've lost one or both of the pieces. The Empower Active I didn't like at first, but then I learned how to use them. I like that they are tiny and fit in my ear without tubes or cables. After spending maybe $20,000 on hearing aids, I definitely like the price. I don't think I will lose them because I leave them in my ears. I forget I have them in! One thing I wish they had is a stepping push-button volume control. The tiny knob is hard to turn with big fat fingers. I will recommend them to everyone who is hard of hearing.

Figuring that technology may have gotten better in the years since I had purchased I decided ...
I have never left a review before... So this is a first. I had two miracle ear hearing aids purchased eight years ago for $4600 for the pair. They are very average and I was never all that impressed though I have significant hearing loss very badly in my left ear . Puppy ate one of my miracle ears in the other one died after about eight years . Figuring that technology may have gotten better in the years since I had purchased I decided to go out on a limb and try it the Life ear active. Way way way better than my miracle ear hearing aids I had. Extremely happy with it. Will be buying another one for my right here. Took me most of the day to get the adjustments made but once I did I was amazingly impressed. As someone else had commented I didn't use the foam tip and it is crazy comfortable in my ear I love it.Can't say enough good things about it!Sincerely, Jim

My wife has been nagging me for years and this seemed like a good way to get her off my back ...
I have heard many stories of people who spent several thousand dollars for a device that didn't perform as expected, so I had no confidence that a device costing a fraction as much would work well. My wife has been nagging me for years and this seemed like a good way to get her off my back without spending a lot of money. So, I was surprised how well LifeEar works. The four programs provide just the options I needed for 10% loss of upper frequencies in one ear. I don't know how long a battery will last, but I am surprised how long my first has lasted. I am much more satisfied than I expected to be.

THEY WORK!! (Whooda Thunk?)
I just got these this AM. I've had them on for about 7 hours. I am impressed. I have profound hearing loss in one ear, so am only using one unit. It took about 15 minutes to read the directions, and get set up. That's it. I can hear in actual stereo again. The only problem I've encountered has more to do with my brain, than the aid. It has gotten used to compensating for my loss, and there was a bit of auditory confusion, for a bit, as to where sound was coming from. I seem to have gotten over that. Other than that, they fit well with the foam pads. I keep forgetting they are there. I'm listening to FM on a very high-end system, and it sounds great! I have used the phone (cell), no problem. I have no idea how well they will last, but they are great right out of the box!

The enclosed black foam tips may be the difference between excellent and poor performance.
I have an Empower Boost also. I like it and if appearance is important to you, the Boost is the one. It is very small and nearly invisable. It also is slightly more comfortable. I wanted to try the Active because it doesn't have tubing and such dangling off of it. I found the Active easy to handle because physically it is different than the Boost, but the operation is very similar. I didn't get much amplification and I was ready to call Customer Service. Don't do it until you try the Black enclosed Foam Tips. That cured all my problems and eliminated feedback.Feedback can be a problem with the Boost because it does not fill the entrance to the ear canal. I would recommend either one of these SoundAmplifiers

Hearing Amplifier
Not too happy, it did not work after 2 days. It was a gift from my son and his wife, they returned it for me and ordered me a new one, this only worked 5 days, I returned it myself and order another one a little more expensive, is not working either. I want to return it but before I do I will talk to some body at LifeEar to find out if I am doing something wrong, but I believe I have not.

it’s nice and small and comfortable
As per my mom, it’s nice and small and comfortable. There is quite a bit of feedback whine and we have to adjust the volume often when putting them in. Also the volume dial is almost too easy to turn. It might be getting moved when we put them in. But I would recommend these over the 10x more expensive custom made hearing aides
