U.S. Divers Avalon Purge Dx Adult Siltech Mask

people constantly complain about the purge leaking.. here's the thing, if you have a great seal on your face, and so the only air hole is the purge, it's not gonna leak... take a glass, turn it upside down and stick it in water.. what happens?? you have a pocket of air in your glass.. Now, do that same thing, with a hole in the top of that glass, what happens... water starts coming up the glass cause the air pressure is released through the hole on top, and water replaces the air...I took these googles scuba diving down to 70 feet of water, and they NEVER FAILED.. Make sure you have a good seal on your face, and make sure when you breath out, you breath out through your mouth, NOT YOUR NOSE, because that puts air into your mask, creates enough pressure to move the googles off your face, to send the air bubbles out, and then guess what, the seal is broken.. and you'll have to re-seal..as with all, you may get a defective set of googles, but if they aren't defective, just use them correctly, and they will work correctly..

I have a medium size face; the mask fits very comfortably and seals when I inhale without using the strap. Since I have a larger nose I like having the purge off to the side (by the check) versus under in the nose portion since this is uncomfortable under pressure. Plus having the purge off to the side makes it easier to pinch the nose when you have to pressurize. HOWEVER, the purge leaks. I am going to try and exhange this mask (hopefully it is an individual issue with this mask and not the whole line). I can only give it two stars since the purge constantly leaks (even at shallow surface depth snorkling). If the replacement works better I will give this mask 4 stars for comort, visibility, plus it is a sharp looking mask.

Like other reviewers, I've had the same problem with the purge. It leaks when you first submerge if you don't add some negative pressure by sucking the mask to your face. Once sealed in this way it does seem to work, but you shouldn't have to constantly remember to do this. Also, the location of the purge forces you to tip your head to expel all the water from the mask. This is due to it not being at the lowest point of the mask. Other than these issues it's would be a good mask, very comfortable with good visibility. Glad I didn't pay much for it.

It is a little uncomfortable to put on -- strap does not stretch enough when pulling on over forehead. Secondly water does leak into nose compartment readily. On the positive side no fogging as of yet and it does fit a snorkel tube as attachment.

this is an excellent mask, high quality in my opinion. Unfortunately the purge position is tricky unless you learn how to move your head and proceed with the purge. Field of vision is excellent, I used in both, snorkeling activities and try on diving as well. When diving, some small water leak.

i have a US Divers Avalon mask thats about 13 years old. Great mask and I enjoyed it alot. Then its been in storage and I gues seals dried up and slightly leaks. I bought this new US Divers Avalon with purge valve as a replacement. not sure if I just got a defective one. Maybe purge valve should be left in skorkels. Not sure but this thing leaks way worst than the old 13 year old one. I printed a return label and its going back. Going to try one w/o purge just like the old original.

Bought two pairs of these... They work good but too small for my head and too large for my eight year old sons head.

I don't know what the vent feature is yet. It was hot out when I got it so I went to the lake w/o understanding it. The mask worked well, good seal, easy to clear.
