Lee Preciesion 90997 Lee Precision, Small & Large Safety Prime Primer Feeder, 2006 Later Reloading Press

I recently purchased the Lee Safety Primer for my 4-hole turret press, and I am really impressed with how well it performs. Installation was a breeze, and with just a little bit of practice, it became incredibly easy to use. The primer feeds smoothly and consistently, making reloading much more efficient. What I appreciate the most is how it improves safety while speeding up the process. I highly recommend this upgrade for anyone using a Lee 4-hole turret press. It’s a simple yet very effective tool that makes reloading safer and more enjoyable!

Received this fast! It is a nice upgrade over the other two original Safety Prime versions (round tray old style primer dispenser and fold over tray old style dispenser) both of which I have. I guess we are all the subjects of field testing this product? The mounts seem better height to quit dropping primers and no longer require a shim or washer to raise the height when used with a turret press and the actual primer dispenser mechanism seems much better quality than the early version. The internal springs have been upgraded so they will not fail or set so quickly. I liked my originals and they took many thousand of rounds to fail, but they have flaws. I hate the new fold over primer trays ,they do not feed near as reliable as the older round ones and are prone to flip the primers so be careful although this version seems that they may have addressed it partly. Overall a quick priming system but not without it's flaws. Faster than most others out there to load and easy to use once you get the feel for it. Maybe third time is a charm with this product? Time will tell....

I bought this to prime on my Lee classic cast press, and it works ok. Pros: built in primer flipper, simple operation Cons: primers get stuck and fail to feed sometimes primers fail to go into ram and fall on the floor I ended up buying a handheld primer system (RCBS APS with universal shellholder) and like it much better. Update: 1/22/2016 I've had this thing for more than two years and I've gotten used to the quirks. I've raised it one star because it does beat feeding primers in one at a time. I bought it for a Lee cast single stage, but have since added a Lee cast turret, and I also have a Hornady Lock 'n Load AP which has an automatic priming system using a tube still primer chute. I still use the RCBS APS handheld primer for most of my small rifle priming. However, because the Lee system is so easy to switch between large and small primer as they are two complete units and because of the built in primer flipper, I can prime Large Pistol/Rifle cases with a minute of deciding I want to prime cases. It is more convenient to use this, than it is to swap out parts on my Hornady Lock 'n Load AP or swap out the primer parts on the RCBS. I can also easily move it back and forth between the single stage and turret as they use the same type of bracket.

Please be aware when reading reviews for this product to check the date it was posted. Lee has changed this product 3 times, but has kept the same part number which leads to some confusion (but keeping the same part number means all their literature stays correct). The latest update began production in June 2017. The original Safety Prime had round black primer trays with a clear cover and a black primer chute and a black or white dispenser (depending on the primer size). They later updated it to a newer version (this would be the second version), which had white/clearish triangular primer trays and a white primer chute and a black or white dispenser. This version was pretty bad. I suspect a lot of reloaders are still using this version, which would explain some of the bad reviews (well earned bad reviews). However this part was again updated for June 2017 to the newest version with the same triangular white/clearish primer trays, but a new gray primer chute and dispenser. The new dispensers have either SM or LG molded into them to denote the primer size, along with some serrations on the dispenser itself. The primer chute is a lot more sturdy/rigid, and primers tend to stay in the correct orientation as well. Also, the mount for the priming system that you attach to your turret press or Auto Breech Lock Pro has been updated with an additional hook to capture the 'wings' on the chute. The dispenser feels like it has a stronger spring and the 'click' from the dispenser is much more positive. Be sure it's aligned properly, and you will be good to go. Hopefully this clears up some confusion, just be sure to check the review date.

I actually have two of these. The first one came with my original Lee classic turret-press kit, and I ended up buying a second set so I could have separate feeders for pistol vs rifle primers (For safety's sake, you really don't want to move primers between feed trays and storage boxes any more than absolutely necessary.) All in all, this feeder system is well thought-out in terms of safety: it feeds primers edge-to-edge and keeps the primer you're seating separate from the feed stack, so if one primer detonates during seating, you probably won't turn your entire tray of primers into destructive popcorn. As it is, I've even fed plenty of super-sensitive Federal match primers through this feed system without any premature detonation (to be honest, I have yet to blow a primer during seating either). The texture on the bottom of the trays works great for catching the anvils on Boxer primers and flipping them right-side-up if you just gently shake the tray. As other reviewers have noted, the feeder gets a little finicky once you're down to less than 5 primers; at that point, it often fails to dispense at Lee's primer-arm angle, although it will drop a primer just fine once you let it hang a bit more upright. The box includes mounting kit for both the Lee single-stage press and the classic turret press. It's a good idea to keep the box for these feeders, just so you can safely store them fully-assembled, primers and all, whenever they're not in use.

Certainly has sped up my reloading. Great product!
