best olives ever from a can!
I was searching for olives to use in a tapenade recipe and saw these at the grocery store, but they cost quite a bit more there. After reading several reviews I decided to try them and ordered the case but thought "what the heck will I do with all these olives if we don't like them?" Not a problem! These turned out to be some of the best olives I've ever purchased and we've eaten almost the whole case now . . . not only were they great in the tapenade, they made a delicious green olive sauce for pasta and also were tasty just out of the can. They are not as salty as some other olives we've tried, either - we'll definitely be ordering more of these!

These olives were AWFUL! No flavor and SOFT! I thought maybe 1 can was just bad, NOPE! As soon as I found out these could not be returned I opened each can to try! EVERY CAN HAD AWFUL NO TASTE SOFT GREEN BLOBS! Yuk!

I don't get the hype either
Lindsey Naturals (California green olives, water and sea salt only) = $1.88 at Walmart.Early California Fresh Cured green ripe California Olives (green olives, water and sea salt only) = $2.39 at local Kroger's store. Both of the above-referenced olives are equal in quality and taste to the Santa Barbara olives listed for $3.50 here on Amazon. Ladies and gentlemen, these olives are simply not worth the price. These may be ok if you want simple canned olives -- but if that is the case, why not get the Lindsay's naturals, for example, for half the price? Also, as a previous reviewer mentioned, if you want special olives, canned olives such as these don't cut it.Despite all of the 5 star reviews for these olives, they are over-priced and clearly over-rated.... think carefully before buying them.

Best olives on the planet
My great-grandmother introduced me to green ripe olives about 55 years ago. She used to process her own and they were wonderful. They are very, very hard to find. This is especially true in the rural area where we live. The closest place I can find them is 35 miles from here and they don't always have them in stock. So, I rely on my good friends at Amazon to ship these fabulous, mild, buttery olives right to my door. I have friends who are self-proclaimed olive-haters and even some of them like these olives. I've tried several brands over many years when I could find them and I must say that Santa Barbara Olive Co.'s are the best I've ever had (except maybe for my great-grandmother's).

Good olives...for a can!
There are better olives available in my local (extremely overpriced) gourmet store fresh. But these are the best canned olives I've ever eaten. Great flavor and reasonable price. It's convenient to have a can around since you never know when you may need some olives for a recipe or to trot out for a group of unexpected guests!I particularly like that salt is the preservative. Citric acid is commonly used as a preservative for olives. A little is okay, but some grocery store olives with too much citric acid taste TERRIBLE.

I don't get the hype
I bought this product because of the raving reviews. I have to confess that I find nothing spectacular about these olives. In fact, they are regular, canned olives that bear no resemblance to fresh fleshy olives. They are not mushy but have lost almost all crispness due to the liquid in which they are marinated/canned. Maybe I was spoiled by the past year I lived in Italy, but my idea of good olives is olives that still taste like olives after being cured. These olives don't taste much like anything. Not horrible, but easily forgettable and definitely not worth the price.

Best quality. Fresh. Not Salty.
It is not easy to get fresh green olives which are not in vinegar or brine. These have great taste. The cans are self opening. I slightly prefer Spanish ripe greens, which also come in cans, but they are not readily available in the US at a reasonable price.

Superb
I was hooked on Italian, Greek, and Spanish olives for many years until I was told to give them up because of their high acidity. After I learned about both black and green ripe California olives, my problem was solved. Not easy to find in my supermarket, but I discovered these through Amazon. These olives are mild, flavorful and ADDICTIVE! Acid free!
