Joshua and the Shepherd

This is a FIVE STAR PLUS book. I originally read "Joshua and the Shepherd" a decade ago and it was definitely a great book at the time. Now, I am rereading all of my "Joshua" books in preparation for the Lenten Season and the Feast of the Resurrection, Easter. So much has happened, not only in the Catholic Church, but around the world in the past decade. Father Joseph Girzone is 'right on' in many of the issues/concerns he raises in this book. There is so much present-day reality in this fictional story. With the election of Pope Francis last year (2013), some of Father Joseph's "solutions" may be in the process of becoming the foundation of One Flock, One Shepherd. No matter what your faith beliefs, take the time to read, or most especially REread, "Joshua and the Shepherd" then ponder its message for today!

All of Girzone's books have been wonderful to me. He has a great sensitivity to human nature, and to the ideal of human nature seen in the life of Jesus, and in the imagined portrayal of what the actions of Jesus would be like if He were to reappear in our time and culture. Girzone is also to be commended for seeking understand and an appreciation of a common ground between Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim belief and culture. I am on my sixth or seventh Girzone book and hope to read them all.

I have read many of Joseph Girzone's books and found this one my least favorite. The subject matter is inspiring but Girzone's writing appeared too predictable and I sensed the outcome before I was 3/4 through the book. Many people, including myself, embrace the ecumenical movement but this approach is almost too far fetched for a reader to accept. Yes, change is needed but some of those mentioned in this book are unrealistic for even the most open minded individual. I much preferred "Joshua" and "Joshua and the Children" to this book.

It is a story of the ideal way the church should proceed after Vatican 2 renewal....it brings the spiritual OLD WAY and the new way of the Spirit [in conflict] and the ideal success that Spirit should and could have as a result of this renewal...

Book was good but I thought I ordered hardback

I have read a portion of the book before, I remember that it was a great book and that it gave excellent insight to our relationship with Christ. So I ordered it for a friend who wanted books of Christian literature.

A must read for anyone who liked reading other Joshua books.

Another great book by Joseph Girzone. If you are not familiar then you should read. I suggest starting with Joshua and going in order as they become more powerful in their message.

I enjoyed this book as I enjoyed this writer's previous books.It is well worth reading.

A lovely tale about Jesus returning as Joshua. All about love and relationship. Truly a beautiful read.

As with all the Joshua books, I highly recommend it. You will love it.

Words simply fail. Father Joseph has what can only be described as a brilliant and God-Given talent for penning fictional yet incredibly believable tales of Jesus's life on this earth as He walked among us. Our small weekly bible group started reading these books some time back and I can honestly say it has since become the cornerstone of our discussions. These "stories" of Joshua has changed each one of us, deepened our relationships with God, healed our tunnel vision on so many aspects of life, attitudes, beliefs, doctrine, relationships, etc, etc - the list is honestly endless. If you do not read this series of books, nothing bad will happen to you. Your life will just be so much poorer and empty. God Bless you, Father Joseph.
