Better than others
I like 8-cup size vs 12-cup. I make 4 cups for two of us. If others visit, 8-cups is about right. If I need to make more, it's pretty quick.I like the timer based on a clock rather than number of hours/minutes. Some days, I need coffee ready when I wake up. I set the clock, set the auto-brew time. Works great!I like it better than my older coffee-maker, a Cuisin... 12-cup. I killed the older one by getting the internals wet while cleaning it. This one is similar in how you open the top and pour water into the rear portion and add coffee in the front portion. I use a large cup to do so, not the carafe. That works fine. I think it makes better coffee and uses less coffee. I don't know how, but I use 2 Tbsp less for 4-cups. In Cuisinart, I used 8 Tbsp. In this, I use 6. How can that be? Not sure, but I like it.I like that I can pour a cup while it's still brewing.. It doesn't usually drip when I remove the coffee pot while brewing. It shuts off cleanly. The other coffee maker would still drip some into the hot plate. This one might drip a little sometimes, but usually drips nothing. The hot plate seems to "keep warm" for 2 hours. I'm not sure, because documentation doesn't say. I'd think that's an important feature, but they forgot to put it in their specs. The plate starts out warm and lasts long enough for me.I don't need a beep when coffee is ready. That tends to wake people up and don't need that. I know it's done when the light goes out.The only issue I encounter is that the lid of the carafe has a hole in the middle where the coffee goes in during brewing. It doesn't have a valve, so it's always open in the center there. When you tip the carafe into your cup, you hold a little lever down and the coffee comes out the main spigot. But the central hole is still open and could let coffee out if you tip the carafe too far into your cup. I haven't found that to be a problem, but could see other people accidently tipping it too far and causing that to happen. Don't let this dissuade you from this item. I still like it better than my old Cuisin...

has hotplate (description was unclear), hard to pour last few cups, hard to
Overall, pretty good. I was hoping it didn't have a hotplate (maybe shouldn't need it for a thermal carafe), but the hotplate only stays on for a bit, and I think this makes the coffee come out hot even if you start with a cold carafe (so you can set it up the night before). The product description should be clearer on this. The coffee pours well at first (good flow control and no dribbling), but the last few cups don't want to come out without dribbling some (carafe is beyond upside down to get the last bit). It is difficult to add the water, and you certainly can't do this using the carafe. We like the compact design and intend to take it for road trip travels. Oh yes, the coffee tastes quite good, in part because it comes out hot, not warm.

Tired of going through Cuisinarts! This is Awesome!
Okay, first it doesn’t stay on 4 hours like our previous Cuisinarts, it’s 2 hours and that’s fine because the coffee is awesome! It holds 2 cups less but that’s fine too.We were replacing Cuisinarts every 2 years for one reason or another and I was actually not liking my coffee anymore! (SAY IT AIN’T SO!) I’m quite sure my baby bottles contained coffee. This Melitta is more compact, a good thing.Simple and sleek.Easy! No spills. Do drips. No scorching.Touch the brew button for 2 more hours, easy.Makes very good coffee. I use Starbucks Breakfast Blend and I’m loving my coffee again.Brews hot coffee, which you can control.Great purchase!

Not worth it!
I liked the flavor of the coffee, but the carafe doesn’t fit the pour dispenser very well, there’s coffee all over the lid.I set it up for 5:55am and never started, the clock is on military time, that was no problem but for $100.00 coffee maker I expected more, I am going to return the item and get a different brand.I feel like I wasted my time and money.

Average brewer , too much money
Makes good coffee. It's a little clumsy to add water, but not too bad. It mentions temperature control in the description, but I couldn't find one. You can get a Mister Coffee for half the price and the same results for coffee.

Great brand, dissapointing product
Pros: low profile, good clean look, soft touch controls, nice wide water level viewCons: one temp warmer... scalding! much too hot (for me anyway), two choice brew selector virtually indistinguishable outcome... bland, flat-bottom conical filter basket doesn't allow as good of a final product as their other models with narrow bottom conical baskets, and brews much too quickly to produce good flavorful coffee.I like Melita products and have used them fairly exclusively for decades. This one is dissapointing compared to others of theirs, especially for this price point - a $35 typical US brand would do the same.I won't bother returning it but rather donate or give it away to someone less discerning, after I find a carafe to fit my prior Melita.
