Fossil Plants review.
This is an easy reading overview of plant fossils with plenty of pictures and illustrations. There are plenty of descriptive terms as well as a good history of continental movements. I refer back to this book often enough to consider it well worth the price and for those who consider themselves an amateur collector (myself) this is a great book. I highly recommend it.

fascinating book for fossil collectors
It was an interesting read, but not too technical. It was fascinating to read about the prehistoric temperatures in Antarctica when plant life could grow there. I just wish they were Farenheit, so I didn't have to use the Centigrade converter.

5 star overview of the history of plant life
Although relatively brief and written for a general audience, "Fossil Plants" provides an excellent overview of the history of Earth's plant life, from Precambrian stromolites, including a section on green algae, to the present. It includes many well-drawn and easy to understand black-and-white illustrations, which prove to be immensely helpful to understanding the discussions. It also has many photographs of fossils, and a section in the middle of the book with color plates. Particularly good is the chapter on coal formation. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, yet solid intro to plant evolution.

Great introduction to Paleobotany
This 216 page guide to fossil plants is an excellent overview of the subject. Starting with the simplest cells, it builds to the great forests that once covered much of the Earth. It has separate chapters on the great coal measures, the interaction of plants and animals, and the development of flowering plants. It contains numerous photographs of plant fossils and has a glossary of terms for those not acquainted with botany. The book is an excellent introductory text for anyone interested in studying further on the subject of Paleobotany (e.g. Paleobotany and the Evolution of Plants by Wilson N. Stewart).
