The Divine Center

The Right Center
If you want to know what are the results of reading and applying what is in this book to your life, read on...The Divine Center is the unalloyed gold that is presented in diluted, yet still powerful form in Covey's fabulously successful "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and in his less widely-known, "Principle Centered Leadership" Principle-Centered Leadership .My wife and I were given this book shortly after we were married. We read it and have applied it as consistently as we can. That was more than 31 years and five children ago and we are still together and still going strong. One result of reading this book is that I decided that when I retire from my job, I want to go home to the the only wife I have ever had and my children. I did that.I didn't make my job the center of my life. Good thing too. It would have made for a rough ride. I went through layoffs, downsizing, and mergers galore. But instead of being beaten, I thrived and have gone on to teach others how to do the same in my own book: Fire Yourself: Get The Job You Want A No BS Guide . That probably wouldn't have happened without understanding where I need to be centered.I didn't make my family the center of my life. Good thing on that front too. Children go through lots of ups and downs before they hit their own stride. Making that the center of my life would have meant an unpleasant roller coaster ride.I didn't even make my wife the center of my life. She has been there for me through thick and thin for 31+ years now. Still, there have been moments when I felt less support from her than I thought I should be getting. It didn't matter. Being divine-centered, any shortfalls I may have felt (or caused) were made whole and made inconsequential.Although I am active in my Church, I didn't make it the center of my life either - thanks to this book. I understand the difference between God and Church. Because of that, I have been able to serve without getting caught up in what my Church was doing for me.I strongly recommend this to anyone and everyone. I have verbally recommended this book to many of my friends. I make the recommendation without reservation. It doesn't matter if you are just starting your journey of life or are well along it. It is never too early or too late to build your life upon a rock solid center that will not fail you regardless of what life throws at you.

Clarity on principles
I was looking to better understand what Stephen Covey meant by "principles" in his 7 Habits book and by reading this book it has given me the glasses I needed to see the bible and connect with the Holy Ghost. Thank you for this book.

A very insightful and inspiring book.
I see a lot of people say Covey is wrong for brining the gospel in his books etc.Trying to tell people about the 7 habits when he's rally using another language conveying biblical principles. They can think and judge what they will.I disagree with their negativity around the issue. This is an incredible, incredible book! I just finished reading it last night. What I love about Stephen Covey is that he is deep rooted in Biblical studies - well over ten years before the 7 habits came out- then Boom! 7 habits gets super successful. This book contains all of the 7 habits.Parts of this book are actually in the 7 habits and Principle centered leadership. It just goes to show that the same principles are relevant here - in the early 80s when this book was published - 89 when 7 habits came out - and 2008!I recommend this book to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the 7 habits. I'm happy he discusses Christ centeredness. Again his religion is his business, and he states that the 7 habits are shown in all 6 major religions. I'm really excited and happy about this book. Incredible read!

The book itself says it needs page numbers, but none are on the Kindle version
In the first chapter, Covey strongly encourages the reader to perform an experiment if s/he wants to get the most out of the book. Unfortunately, the experiment involves going to three specific page numbers, which the Kindle edition doesn't include. I realize this is a publisher's decision, but it seems somewhat unusual to hamstring the reader against the author's specific intention.

Read At Your Own Risk - It Will Change You
Yes, this book will change you. Was it written for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - undoubtedly. However, it's not a church book. It's not doctrine - well, unless you don't consider the first of the ten commandments doctrine. This is a powerful and life changing book. If you liked Seven-Habits of Highly Effective People, you'll love this book. If you're happy with who you are - then don't read it. But if you want to keep learning and growing, to establish the correct "center" in your life, then there's nothing better in print - save the scriptures.KC

An amazing book!
I felt the book was scriptural well founded. After reading the book I immediately feel the need to re-read it, perhaps on a yearly basis. I also feel as if I read it to read it and wasted my time as I didn't not read it to DO it, thus the need to re-read it.Please consider doing it as you are reading it.

One of the best books for spiritually realigning yourself to your divine center. Recommened for all Christians
Very insightful book for both LDS and non-LDS Christians. Covey is brilliant at shining light into those dark corners of our soul. I was ready to burn his book after the first 4 chapters because I knew he was talking about me when he talked about all of the worldly things people center on. However, I am glad I read on as he provides a clear spiritual and real path to becoming divinely centered. The only one which really matters.

great resource for anybody regardless of faith
No matter what your faith I think you can benefit from this book. Covey looks at several different "centers", basically a philosphy or worldview that determines values and how you choose to live your life. It's very persuasive and Covey always seems genuine and gracious as he discusses common pitfalls and mistakes. If you are looking for a book that covers areas of self-help/productivity and spirituality I think this books is highly relevant in both areas while offering extremely pragmatic suggestions you can implement immediately.

Great book
The book is great and helpful but what I don't like is that when you buy a book for kindle version. You're not able to print it and to listen it in audio, it's horrible!
