Others have mentioned that it is a replacement for my Ademco 6127 Keypad. Is this something an all-thumbs 81 year old can replace on his own?

Should be a replacement. There are 4 screw terminals that the 4 wires will be secured to. There is also another issue that you may experience. The keypad address of the new keypad must match the old keypad address. The addresses are one of these 16, 17 or 31. To change the address of the new keypad do the following. Depower the new keypad, repower, press and hold the 1 & 3 keys till you see the current address,press 00 (to clear), ** (the number from the old keypad) then * to exit. If you do not know the old keypad address just keep changing the new until it works.
