Sides of plate wrap around lens foot.
The plate has raised sides along the length to grip the lens foot and prevent twisting. It does this very well and is nicely made. To balance my set up of a Z50 camera, FTZ adaptor and 200-500mm lens on a Sirui gimbal head I would like to have more movement for the camera on the tripod. This plate could be made longer for more options. On a tilt or ball head it would not be an issue as you always are gripping the camera or locking the mount.
