Z97F9848 - 35 + 5 uf MFD 440 Volt VAC - GE Round Dual Run Capacitor Upgrade

This capacitor replaced the original capacitor on my Carrier AC Model# CA13NA024-F outdoor unit. It was an exact fit for it. The capacitor (HERM) for the compressor was bad and would not start the compressor. The capacitor for the fan worked so the fan would start but the compressor wouldn't. You could not hear the compressor start-up. I tested both capacitors in this single capacitor unit with my capacitance meter. The capacitor for the compressor read 36.6 nanofarads when it should have read near 36.5 microfarads. The fan capacitor read 4.89 microfarads which indicated it was still good. The new capacitor for the compressor read 37.5 microfarads and the capacitor for the fan read 5.12 microfarads. Note: do not touch or remove the capacitor from the AC unit without disconnecting power to the unit and discharging the capacitors.

I’m not sure how long these are supposed to last but for $20 and an easy fix I’m not complaining. Arrived the next day and fixed my home ac.

Nothing like coming home to a 90* home after vacation... and the grown boys thinking it was just so hot that the a/c wasn't keeping up! Repair shop?... said 2 weeks to get the part and have it installed... but first they're going to have to come look at it to make sure that it was just a blown fuse. Amazon to the rescue! 3 days... and we had air again! Best part... didn't have to pay someone $200 to fix it!

A week ago, both A/C compressor motor and fan did not come on for my Carrier A/C. After Googling, I have identified the problem to be likely the dual run capacitor. This dual capacitor is 35uF and 5uF in one. One of them connects to the compressor motor, and the other connects to the fan. If the fan failed due to the faulty capacitor, then the compressor motor is unlikely to run as well because of the dual capacitor design. Thus, the heat will not be pulled into the compressor, and hence the compressor will not be damaged. Once I had the aha moment, I ordered this capacitor and fixed the unit within 15 minutes. Genius design for hooking both motors to the dual capacitor and I learnt something new by fixing my A/C. Attached is the picture for the bad capacitor on the A/C, note the top cover on the capacitor has already popped out.
