Like others have reported, it does not lock the wire down securely
8awg wire is a bit of a stretch for this receptacle, as that is exactly what we are using for our Minn-Kota trolling motor (55 watt unit). The installation is relatively easy, just drill a 1 1/8 (29mm) hole with a hole saw, put nut on bottom end, tighten down and install the top rectangle cover with two philips screws. Unfortunately, the problem is where the wires install into the housing, which should be done first (or else you'll be installing the wiring into the receptacle underneath the area you've installed it). Its a simple screw-type lock down, but the metal is way too light for 8awg wiring to be cinched down safely.I ended up cutting some of the wire away to make it closer to a 10awg cable, and after stripping one of the screws, completely disassembling the receptacle and swapping the unused (at least for us, we only need a 2-wire setup for our motor) pinch connector with the stripped out one. I was surprised how easy it was to strip that thing out, I'm not a gorilla of a man, and I've been around this type of stuff for decades, it just seems to be really cheap metal they went with for the connections.I made it work, and added a bar that's ziptied to the housing and wire underneath the bow of the boat so I could create a wire tension relief, as I just don't trust those wires staying in over the next few years.Sure wish this thing was made a bit stronger, or at the very least, some 8awg flying leads with crimps, where its soldered into the housing. That would make it a much safer and sturdier receptacle for something that will undoubtedly be bumped and banged around on a boat.

Good for more than just trolling motors
I use these in vehicles where I want to install an outlet for an inverter. A normal lighter type socket can supply about 120 watts safely, making them appropriate for only the smallest power inverters. These receptacles can handle 40 amps, or 480 watts at 12 volts, allowing me to use a 400w inverter safely without having to go under the hood and clamp directly to the battery. These are well made, can handle plenty of current (as said, about 4 times what a lighter socket can provide), and look great when installed, not affecting the aesthetic of the vehicle interior.I would like to see a better designed "registration peg" on the body of the receptacle, so when it is installed without the mounting bracket, it won't spin in the hole when the plug is rotated. Additionally, a more robust lock nut, one that can be tightened tighter and with a crescent wrench would make for a better installation.

Defective screws. Stay away!
This product has 3 screws to hold down up to 3 wires. Problem is, the screws are poorly manufactured and dont have adequate thread all the way to the head. Consequently, when you go to tighten it down, and reach the unthreaded portion, it wont tighten further, and you just spin the screw forever. Two of my three screws were defective. Spent three hours taking it apart, analyzing it, putting it back together, moving the parts around, etc before finally understanding the problem. Only needed two to work, but only one of the three screws worked. Cost me a day of fishing. Dont buy this brand. Terrible garbage.

This item strips with very little pressure
If you are hooking this up to a trolling motor I would not recommend buying this product after speaking with customer service and technical support it seems they’re having a problem with these connectors stripping out but they don’t seem to think it’s important to discontinue it! so if you want to spend 20 bucks on a connector that is going to Strip when you put wires into it and try to tighten it down then don’t purchase this item

Would not not tighten down on 12 ga. wire ...
Would not not tighten down on 12 ga. wire stripped terminals. Bought 3 could only make 2 work after running all new wire. Had to throw out the third. Would have expected more from MarincoPhillips Metal Products Inc. Boat rigger.Scott J. Phillips

Works great
Only issue was it only fits 8 gauge or higher wires

Don’t buy
The worst design imaginable. The screws back out and won’t stay tight on the wire so you have to tighten multiple times when in use and hope it doesn’t disconnect on you.

Would not recommend
Poor quality, screws to connect wires would not tighten and wouldn't stay in contact so plug failed right away

Bonne pièce.
C'est exactement ce que ça prenait pour la réparation sur le bateau.
