Excellent
Amazing photographic and illustrated detail. I rarely buy books that I cannot "look into", but this turned out to be worth the risk. The cover suggested a book oversimplified. Not So! There are even some e-ray photographs of construction of garments in the Victoria and Albert Museum. This book will be used for historical reproduction reference.

An amazing book on historical costumes
This book is a MUST OWN for anyone interested in the history of fashion in general, and Renaissance clothing in particular. It is absolutely incredible how they analyzed existing garments from the time period in painstaking detail to gain understanding of how the garments were made. There are dozens of close-up images of each item, along with insightful analysis of their findings. Reading this book feels like picking up these garments for yourself and turning them over in your hands.

Utterly crucial reading along with Cut of Men's and Patterns of Fashion, now make the three most incomparably important books on men's period costume. This book is exhaustive in its content. Several original period costumes are used, each being presented in photos and paintings, with extensive informative text, are then broken down in every detail with photos detailing every part of the costume. Then everything needed to correctly make the costume is given. It has perfectly accurate pattern draughts and superbly clear making illustrations taking you through every process from start to completion. Indispensable.
