Surpisingly Decent
This is a surprisingly decent compass for the price. It's obviously a clone of some very popular and much more expensive compass models. I have purchased 4 of them over about a year period. All of them have been good. So the consistency is decent. Perhaps the only inconsistency is how smooth the compass dial rotates. Which is true even on my more expensive compasses. The magnetic declination adjustment works adequately. I've busted one apart before to see how it works, and its just a little brass gear between the outer plastic ring and the needle enclosure. In that case, the little gear had gotten knocked out of position while I was fiddling with it and I was able to fix it. I have a much more expensive model, and in terms of quality, design, and features they are about the same. So when people say "I wouldn't trust my life on it" implying that they only trust the expensive one, I say how about we don't trust our lives to any of them and carry backups. Because the expensive ones aren't that much better to justify the cost difference. If they were twice as much...maybe...but sometimes they are 4-8x as much (or more), and now that I have both I can say that the quality of materials doesn't justify the difference in most cases.

Great compass, no need for anything else.
I’m a Search and Rescue Technician, and I teach land navigation to other searchers and Deputies. This compass works fine, very much like my Brunton, though not quite as high a quality. Rotation of the bezel is a little sticky but not a problem. This compass is all you really need. Value can’t be beat. It would be nice to have the small tool to adjust the declination screw, but it’s not critical anyway.

Good Quality for a Low Cost Compass
I've used a Silva Ranger compass since 1974 when I enrolled in a Forestry Technician School and still use a Silva in semi-retirement as a Consulting Forester. Silva sets the standard for quality hand compasses used in Forestry and Forest Engineering. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised when I purchased several of these for a compass and forestry presentation to be used by several school aged children. The Funtalker compass is an exact copy of the Silva down to the brass magnetic declination set screw. For the price and decent quality, I recommend the Funtalker compass for recreational use. For everyday professional use, I wouldn't be without a Silva Ranger compass.

Good value for the cost!
Unexpectedly this has glow in the dark markings, they're decently bright but I can't imagine not using a flashlight anyway. The capsule appears to be liquid filled with dampening but I didn't spot any bubbles to be sure (good design). Opening and shutting is straightforward and I had no trouble adjusting for declination, funny enough, while searching for more info about declination adjustments, I saw the Mountain Summit Gear compass on REI, this is an exact clone or sold under a different brand. One more bonus is the clinometer that does a decent job of measuring slope.

Not too bad for the money, but I wouldn’t trust my life to it.
I am a former 19D (Scout) and a very experienced navigator, and even instructed land nav in the Army. I see 3 big problem with this compass.1) My particular needle indicates 2deg West (358deg) when pointing at magnetic North. The error does seem to be consistent and repeatable, so it can be corrected for with the adjustable declination feature by adding 2 extra degrees to your declination value, but it’s one more atypical calculation you shouldn’t need to make. Also, you wouldn’t be able to easily tell this unless you have other known-good compasses to compare against. In my case I have 2x USGI, a Brunton TruArc20, and a Garmin digital compass to check against. Those are all within .5deg of each other. This one is a big outlier. It doesn’t sound like much, but a 2 degree error will put you almost 200 feet off for every mile you travel.2) The mirror is not glass. It has a bunch of distortion and a grainy surface. Can be used during a bright day, but basically unusable in low light conditions.3) The azimuth, back azimuth, and needle pivot reference dots are not in line with each other. These marks are what you have to line up with the reference line in your mirror to get a proper reading. The back azimuth dot indicates 2 degrees too much. It should be an even 180 degrees from the azimuth dot, but it’s at 182.Overall these are just quirks of the low quality that will come with a $12 compass. You can’t expect too much. It’s ok to use as a basic baseplate compass or as a training aide, but I wouldn’t trust it in any kind or real-world situation. If you need a good compass you can trust, I would recommend a Brunton, SUUNTO, or pre-2018 Silva. (Modern Silva’s have been outsourced and their quality has greatly suffered for it)

Excellent as a first compass for the price.
Excellent quality mirrored compass for the price. comparable in quality and accuracy to my $45 SUUNTO. I bought this for my son to use in boy scouts, for orienteering after he lost his more expensive compass. I've bought cheap ones before that were so disappointing I just threw them away. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this compass.

Clinometer and compass work, but no level so compass gets stuck when holding horizontally
Does what I need it to, but disappointed that the compass needle does not sit level, which means I have to hold it on an angle so that the compass needle does not get stuck. Not bad enough to go through the returns process because I need it now and cannot wait for sending back and getting a new one, but I am a bit disappointed
