Love this story
I have read this story many times and have always loved it. It's both sexy and endearing. It seems a common theme that men and women don't understand what the other is thinking and never believe anything on face value. That is a struggle that the main character struggles with and I (as a hopeless romantic) continue to yell at her, "you're an idiot!".

Irritating
I love this author's books, even most of her earlier ones. But this? This was like reading about everything that was so dumb with the 80's. The two main characters just did nothing for me and although I finished the book, I wanted to stop in at least 10 places. Drake was the epitome of what women wanted in the eighties, and was just too too. In fact, he was probably too much back then too, but women wanted to read about rude, pushy, overbearing men who lost it over the women they loved. More power to them and I'm glad that's improved.I'm glad I read the book on one hand and am angry with myself for wasting my time on the other. She's still one of my all time favorites, but I'm SO glad her writing improved.I

True love is unselfish
Both Drake and Lauri suffered disappointing marriages. They both needed to let go of the past before they could love again.

it was excellent story about how people are changed by their life ...
It wasn't the mystery story I was expecting. However, it was excellent story about how people are changed by their life experiences. It makes them change into who and what they are, You can only change yourself when you face and deal with events and the issues that changed you. A good story also on how deaf people face many challenges in their lives and how something as simple, learning to sign , is a big step in opening the lines of communications with the deaf community.

Romantic Fantasy!
Sandra Brown writes very good stories even though they are sometimes predictable. She draws you in with her charming characters and you realize that ultimately there will be a happy ending, but you don't care. They are pretty relaxing stories and true love always wins out. I will continue to read her books because they are easy to read and very romantic.

Eloquent Silence
Very enjoyable story. I liked the fact that the issue of hearing impaired was the bases of the story line. I have never encountered that in any books I read in the past. The story was believable with the exception of the extent of the teachers' head games she had with herself as to her lovers intent. The story ended well with an outline of what their future holds.

Intriguing, heartwarming book
Appreciated th skillful way Sandra Brown wove the conflicting emotions between two adults suffering from broken dreams and longing for healing , both still being protective of a precious deaf toddler who captured their love.

Judge not, lest yes be judged! We hope ...
Judge not, lest yes be judged! We hope other people will see past their first impressions of the superficial they perceive in us but are we guilty of just those same judgements? A sensitive, dedicated teacher of children with disabilities must confront her own prejudices. If we look at people who appear to have "everything" and imagine the live a charmed existence, we see only the trappings and fail to recognize the person. Even celebrities have burdens and troubles. Sandra Brown delivers a story with a touch of romance, a dash of mystery and a serving of morality.

Early romance disappoints
I enjoy Sandra Brown's suspense books so it was interesting to read one of her earlier romances and to see how she has grown as a storyteller and writer. This is your basic young teacher of the deaf meets handsome soap opera actor romance. Teacher is hired to tutor actor's deaf child. As neither actor or teacher will talk to each other about their past marriages misunderstandings occur and all is resolved in the last two pages. Some annoyingly trite scenes - the girl's Midwest parents (Dad is a pastor) turn up as our couple are in the middle of a make-out session; Dad gets ready to explode; actor lies to parents that they were married that morning; parents immediately welcome actor into family with open arms - duh! This book is not recommended and I wonder that it was reissued. I groaned when I realized it was a romance - not one of Brown's excellent suspense thrillers.

Really well done. A glimpse into being deaf and learning to live real life.
I gave it 4 stars because the character were real and the theme well developed.I fully appreciated the contrast between the make believe world that entertains and the good sound moral of the teacher/nurtured.Would recommend it to serious romance readers. Realistic scenarios.
