It's a ukulele
I needed a laminate wood ukulele to take travelling and camping. I didn't want to take my more expensive solid wood ukuleles that require more care. This ukulele can take some abuse and misuse. I am writing this review after playing the ukulele pretty hard for almost 6 hours. I can't see my opinion changing after playing it longer.Decent ukulele at this price point. I like the binding on the front, back, and neck. I know it doesn't make it sound any better but, it does give the ukulele a more premium appearance. No manufacturing defects visible outside or inside the ukulele. There was a bit of glue residue by the nut but, it cleaned up easily. It sounds exactly what can be expected from a ukulele in this price range. It's nothing special but, certainly has a pleasant usable sound. Action was good out of the box, and after a good stretching the strings are holding tune well. Finish is fairly light and doesn't seem to interfere with the sound. Neck, at least on the tenor I bought, has a nice easy to play profile. Not too thick like some ukulele. The strap is better than expected, comfortable to use and will only get better once the leather ends soften up a bit from use.IMHO the plastic picks are useless for ukulele but, the leather pick is good quality and a nice bonus. I personally don't use a pick but, it was nice to be able to try a leather pick. The strings and spare strings are good quality, not some unknown random junk. The case is nothing more than a glorified dust cover. I have much better cases for travel, and I would recommend buying a better padded or hard case if you plan to travel or take your ukulele anywhere. The tuner works, time will tell how long, and the extra battery is a nice bonus.Overall I got exactly what I expected at this price and maybe a little more.Note: This ukulele comes set-up high-g. You will need to file the nut and get a new set of strings if you prefer low-g.Note: This is a Canadian company that imports branded ukuleles from China. It shouldn't matter but, I do realize some people might care about this detail.

Very good starter Uke at a very attractive value point.
OK, I am not a uke player, but I do play piano and guitar so I thought I would take a shot at a ukulele. I am by no means rich so like most I am looking for a budget friendly solution. I took a shot on this kit with low expectations. I mean after all, what can you expect from a complete package for under $100? I went with the concert size which is the most popular and a good choice. Size doesn't matter, really, if you believe it does and want to blame the size of the Uke on your playing ability, just take a look and listen to Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo playing Over the Rainbow on YouTube - No excuses! To be honest the instrument is nicer than I expected. For under $100 you get a nice instrument with decent string tuners and good strings. I was skeptical about the little instrument tuner that comes in the package, but I am pleasantly pleased with its operation and accuracy. It works as well as and agrees with my much higher priced guitar tuner. Lohanu even sends an extra battery for the tuner and an extra set of strings in the kit. Let's be honest, a tuner will cost about $10 minimum and those little round CR2032 batteries will cost you a buck or two. A new set of strings will cost about $8 to $10. So I am not sure how the manufacturers provides a Ukulele and all of the add-ons for under $100. This package sure meets my requirements for a "budget" solution. The kit comes with a gig bag that is of better quality than I expected. I expected a really thin vinyl bag with no padding. This bag is made of a more durable nylon material with some minimal padding. It should work well for most people and casual use. You sure won't want to put it in checked baggage on a plane, but I wouldn't do that with any gig bag. A hard case would be in order for that type of travel. As I said, the quality of the instrument is good. The finish is nicer than I expected. I will add a coat of lemon oil and then polish it up with some instrument polish to make the neck nice and slick and protect the wood. The fret board came well oiled, straight, and the frets are nicely level and dressed on the ends. The body and the neck both have a nice binding which adds to the looks of the ukulele. The set-up on my ukulele was very good right out of the box. I have not had to make any adjustments to it If you are new to nylon strings, be prepared for a significant break-in period. It took mine 2 or 3 days of regular play and adjustments before they started staying in tune. Don't get frustrated if you find yourself retuning every few minutes the first couple of days. I swear, at times I asked myself how much more these strings can stretch? I keep expecting the E string to break at any moment, it seems (exaggeration) that I have turned the tuner at least 5 or 6 full turns since the original tuning. Be patient and the strings will eventually settle in. Don't think you still won't have to tune often, but you should be able to play for a while without having to retune every few minutes. I think the biggest plus for this Ukulele is the looks, very nice. The workmanship is good for a budget uke, and it sounds really nice. To me a purchase is about value, not just cost. You can get cheaper ukuleles that you probably will not be happy with. Or, you can buy way more costly ukuleles, that I am confident are even more beautiful and better quality than this one. But if you are a beginning player or adding a uke to your repertoire of instruments, I think this kit is an excellent value and an excellent place to start. I know that even $100 is a lot of money to many, but in the world of musical instruments, it isn't much. Don't go super cheap, you will be disappointed and will likely quit playing. This kit is a great value for a new or intermediate player. If it doesn't work out for you, I am confident you can easily resell it and recoup a good portion of your money or give it away to a budding ukulelist without loosing sleep over wasting too much money. If you outright buy a $500-$5000 ukulele I guarantee you will either love it and sleep with it, or feel poorly about spending so much money. Again, this is a great value for beginners or even intermediate players. I am confident you will get years of fun and enjoyment out of your ukulele if you go with this kit. I have not had a need to interface with the manufacturer, but from what I hear the customer service is great. I am pleased with my purchase and don't think you can go wrong with this kit. Good Luck and have fun with your new ukulele adventure. Mahalo!

Lovely quality at a good price
Nicely made and finished, good wood, covered machine heads and good intonation so it plays in tune all the way up the neck and particularly in first position where cheap ukes fail. Lovely full, clean sound. The accessories pack is nice too, with a tuner. And the case is excellent. Arrived well packed and safe. This is the fourth uke I have bought from them (I have the soprano, the concert x2 and the tenor) and they have all been consistently good. One doesn't expect musical instruments to be that good straight out of the box because they usually need setting up a bit. But just unpack and play! Nice follow up messages offering support from the supplier too. Highly recommended, and I am fussy, so that's saying something.
