Tug and Barge work in Alaska - These are the de facto uniform.
Great bargain, sturdy gear. I work on a tugboat in Alaska and I have to move barges from time to time. This means I have to stand on the barge and give commands to my mate on the tug, sometimes for hours, as we move the barge from one mooring to another in freezing rain, driving snow, sometimes crawling around in deep slush to find buried chains or lines, and generally it's just miserable wet stuff. When everybody on the tugs and barges in Valdez is wearing the same thing, you've got a pretty strong endorsement. The price is right, they won't fall down when I'm carrying two radios on me, and they're roomy enough to be comfortable going up and down ladders and crawling around in snow, ice, and slush. Don't think twice, these will last you a decade or more. I also know a lot of fishermen up here who use the same ones.

Materials failed immediately. Poor product.
I ordered these pants because I was headed to Dutch Harbor for the winter, working deck on a freight tug.One of the top reviews for this product is a fellow Merchant Mariner who swore by them, so I figured I'd go with it.These pants were comfortable, easy to put on and provide good mobility. The stitching and overall construction is good. I figured they would serve me well. However, after only a few hours of working on deck in Alaskan rain and snow my legs felt wet. I thought maybe it was just cold getting through, but when i got off the deck and took my rain gear off, my pants underneath were covered in a white slime. This slime turned out to be the waterpoof backing of the rain pants material. See the picture. Without this backing, these pants are nothing. These pants failed completely with only several hours of routine Alaskan ship's deckhand work; shoveling snow, handling lines, working with cargo. Nothing crazy, not even as bad as on a crab boat.Unfortunately as i was in Alaska for several months the return window with Amazon has closed and i will have to file with Grundens for a refund or replacement. I will be doing so, and will update this review with their response. Hopefully they make good.AVOID THIS PRODUCT IF YOU ARE HEADED TO ALASKA. BUY THE HEAVIER STUFF OR A DIFFERENT BRAND.

High Expectations..Complete Garbage
I have had these overalls for about 8 weeks now and I've worn them 6 of the weeks for only 2 days per week getting completely soaked for about 2 to 3 hours each of those days (I also own a jacket, same brand). Two weeks ago a little moisture got in I didn't think much of it because I was soaking wet and it could have leaked just in from somewhere. Last week there was a little bit more water and my pants got pretty wet in the butt area. I should have immediately requested a return (didn't realize my return date ended last week) but I figured I'd wait till I went back to work this week to see if it was just a fluke again. This week I got completely soaked through and realized all the tape in the lower half of the bibs was falling off. Extremely poor quality. I own one of their rain jackets that also has taped seams and its quality is much better. You can tell by looking just at the tape that the quality of tape is even better so I know they have the capabilities of making this product better, they just don't. 100% Do Not Buy This Product. I have not washed them, I have not done anything harsh to them, they just literally fell apart within less than 10 days of wearing them.

The fabric Does fantastic at keeping the water out elsewhere
I'm 6ft 220lbs and ordered extra large, will be getting the large size next time as there is just too much extra opening in the arms and neck and snow is always falling in. The fabric Does fantastic at keeping the water out elsewhere, is thick and not easily torn, breathability is decent.

Quality has gone down
Second pair.First pair lasted 3 years of serious use so I went all in and bought these for the crew. Couldn't be more disappointed.10 uses later and they are all but destroyed through poor workmanship at the seams and a lack of waterproofing. You would think a company that supplies outer gear for the working force would have a bit more on the ball.
