Lovely, but not as described.
The item is beautiful. The birds seem fine with it. The cage fits the suet without the plastic, and if you don't tolerate the texture of suet cakes well in order to get the suet cake into the cage, it's a deterrent. Couldn't give it five stars because the roof part of the item is the same color as the cage instead of the coppery color I was expecting. Additionally, it came with a wire with a ring at the end rather than a braided hanging wire. This change required me to buy a hook in order to hang the suet cage in my tree. A little disappointed, but I'm keeping the item because it is more esthetically pleasing (for me) than the cheap green cages.

Birds like it
I bought this to replace the cheap little green suet feeder I had, because a squirrel dragged it away and I can't find it. I wanted a little more substantial one to deter the squirrels. All the critters took to this fine, it sat for about a day while they all looked it over but then they dug in. I have cardinals, blue jay, 3 kinds of woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, tit mice and of course red and gray squirrels.I would have given the feeder 5 stars except it is a little messy to fill, you have to take the suet cake out of the plastic and slide it in the side. Suet is kinda messy so that part is a little unpleasant but not hard. The ring and cord used for hanging the feeder are adequate and the metal roof is fine. All in all I am pretty happy with this feeder.

The birds didn't like it!
I put this suet feeder next to a regular green cage suet feeder I had and the birds chose the green one every time. Even after the suet in the green one was gone, they didn't seem to want to come to this feeder.I think the problem was with the roof - 1) it is very shiny and might frighten birds away and 2) it's very slick and the birds aren't able to land on the roof and then move to the side where the food is. Most of the birds seemed to have a lot of trouble landing on the cage portion of the feeder. The reason I bought this one was I liked the little glass beads that hooked to the bottom and even those were missing from my package. I was disappointed in this feeder. I threw it out and bought another no-frills green cage.

A suet feeder that confounds squirrels
Finally a suet feeder that the squirrels can't figure out! With any suet feeder I had before the squirrels either opened it and took the suet out or broke the latches to get at it. It seems they are having a hard time with this one. I had to leave this feeder hanging up for a couple of weeks before the birds ventured near. I assume that was because it was something new. Now I have downy woodpeckers that visit regularly, but not many other birds. I would definitely recommend this for others with a squirrel problem.

It has taken a long time for the birds to use it. After they showed no interest in the first location, I moved it closer to our other feeder. When this did not work I broke up suet packs and spread them under it mixed with other bird seed. Some birds have come around to using it and we are hopeful that it will continue to be used.

nicely made, but birds find it difficult to perch on it. they apparently don't like the cold metal on the top of it or they just slide off of it. would have been better to have put a perch in the front and back so that they could stand on it while pecking at the suet.

Perfect!
This bird feeder has quickly become a favorite of the backyard birds. I have not found that the copper is intimidating to them, it does not seems that shiny, the finish is pretty but flat. I think overall it is a lot better looking than your average cage suet feeder at a very reasonable price point. We do have squirrels that come around and so far, they have not been able to figure this feeder out. It is easy to use and clean and most of all the birds are enjoying a high energy treat.

I've had for several years. It is intact. It gets rained on, so the copper top is a little rusty.
