Bon Mots from a Master!
Winston Churchill is regarded by some as the greatest Briton who ever lived. Certainly, when it comes to humorous, insightful, stirring and acerbic use of the English language, Churchill had few rivals. CHURCHILL IN QUOTES, published in 2011 by Ammonite Press, is the latest collection of WC wit and wisdom. It's a hoot.CHURCHILL IN "QUOTES," WIT AND WISDOM FROM THE GREAT STATESMAN dishes up over 200 witticisms by the great man. The quotes are arranged chronologically, the first dates from 1898; the last, from the early 1960s. Churchill was a master of the English language and used it to perfection. Most of his most memorable bon mots are here: the classic wartime quotes ("We shall never surrender," "Blood, toil, tears and sweat," "Some chicken, some neck") along with the dead-on "Iron Curtain" prophecy, the wonderful rejoinder to Bessie Braddock, the classic Clement Attlee put-down and on and on.The quotes are illustrated with vintage pix of Churchill from England's Press Association Images. It's interesting seeing Churchill age as you page through the book.If you're a Churchill fan or just a lover of the English language, CHURCHILL IN "QUOTES" will entertain you even as it reminds you of how powerful and funny and touching language can be when practiced by a master. Highly recommended.
