What Do You Stand For?: For Teens: A Guide to Building Character

This is a good read. Lots of good stories to teach you or your kid everyday values.

One of the best, most comprehensive books to build strong sense of self. This is the rare book on values/character that held my teen’s interest. It prompted thought provoking discussion and an excellent summary of strengths as well as areas for growth. That was all in the first reading—it’s that good!!! I wanted to write this “highly recommend!” Review because I don’t understand how anyone could say anything negative about this book!!!! It’s an awesome book: FULL of gems and very, very helpful!!!

Originally bought this looking for help in working with a group of students I had that needed to have the importance of personal character reinforced. I ended up using this book heavily in creating a school-wide character education curriculum. So I've gotten twice the use out of it that I expected! The lessons are great, and touch on a variety of traits beyond that of the traditional Six Pillars of Character. The lessons and language utilized are relate-able and don't speak down to the reader (or group, if you're using this for a teaching tool). I will definitely be keeping this gem in my library.

I absolutely love this book. I work as a youth care counselor for teenagers and this has been the perfect book for my therapy sessions. The subjects are many of the things we teach and discuss and it was a thrill to find this book as a guide. The material and the group activities at the end of every chapter is an added bonus. This has become my go to resource for my teachings. I have had many other counselors ask about it (the cover is very eye catching) : ) and give me great praise for finding such a wonderful book for the line of work that we do. I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially parents that are raising teenagers that are looking for assistance for teaching their teens good morals. The book is a great price for what you are getting, and even contains references for further reading. Very happy with this product! Thank you!!!

If I could buy only one book for any family with teenagers, this would be it. In fact, I bought it for my friend, who keeps it in the glove compartment of her camper van, which she uses for bonding road trips with her 'tween. Use it for family discussions in advance of tests and college applications, and when the time comes to write college essays, your teen will have a better sense of self, and what to write about. Obviously, the more important thing is to have a tool like this to help launch teens forth into becoming productive and responsible human beings. I imagine it would be a nice curriculum guide for youth groups, character councils, mentoring programs, etc. It's not dopey at all; the stories, resources, activities and framework are all top notch.

I expected something that a I could dig into with my teen that really addressed relevant character challenges for teens today. The topics were the right topics that teens seem to face but we couldn’t really connect with the delivery. The target seems to be more in the late 10-11 age range than the actual teen age range.

If you were looking to build character with teens, this is one of the tools that you will need in that process.

We got this to teach my son ethics but really it's even more that that!! This has self reflection and helped me see some gaps for my child as well!!

Excellent material! It was very useful. Good activities and clear definitions for teenagers. I really liked this book. If you are interested in values, this book s a must.

The picture shown is the guide for ‘teens’ published 2005 - what is supplied on Kindle is the 1998 edition titled for ‘kids’. 1998 edition also supplied via third party suppliers. Unfortunately there is a change of Book title but not change of ISBN number. Confusing to say the least. Amazon please sort and be consistent with title, picture and description.

Excellent toold to help with character development. Helps kids discover their good qualities and where they would like to improve.
