Love the Science Fiction stories cronicled in the Comics with Valerian and Lauraline. They can't translate these classic comics from French to English fast enough for me. Would recommend to others.

The Shape of Things to Have Not Come
Originally published in 1988, this science fiction adventure restarts the series after a long story arc in which author Pierre Christin tried to write his way out of a black hole in continuity. Way back in 1968 Christin had predicated the future on a nuclear climate catastrophe occurring in 1986 - but now that the series has outlived that future, Valerian and Laureline have to adjust to a new reality in which it DIDN'T happen. Working on Earth as agents-for-hire, they must outwit a nuclear terrorist whose agenda is to recreate days of future past.Mezieres is at the top of his form artistically, but Christin is trying to be 'mature' and as a result the adventure misses all the wit and satirical fun from the series' early days. Things mostly just sort of happen in an effort to move the series away from the paternalistic imperialism of Galaxity - which Christin never succeeds in accomplishing anyway.

I had expected more
Valerian is not a macho character in the normal sense, and Laureline does have some action, phew, but I found the plot twists incoherent. Visually the extra-terrestians are sometimes funny inventive, but mostly drawn from human form??? Except one that seems drawn from a jellyfish-octopus hybrid.

Disjointed
There are several sections towards the end when it feels like whole pages are missing. I checked that they weren't at least twice. It has a promising start but this is one of the poorer books in the series and it ended poorly. They can't all be great :-)

Serie classica

I love Valerian book
I love Valerian book, and have read them all, when they are good they are superb and 5 stars and when they are weak they are still beautifully illustrated but laking in action and story. This Volum, sadly, is the later, the art work is superb, but what's really going on? Not much.
