Becoming Westerly: Surf Champion Peter Drouyn's Transformation into Westerly Windina Paperback – June 23, 2020

This book kept me up at night ... I couldn't put it down. It was fascinating to follow Peter Drouyn's journey to becoming Westerly. I grew up in an area with a strong surf culture in the 80s. I knew very little about the earlier surf culture and it was interesting to hear the stories interwoven in the book's main story of Peter and Westerly. I followed some of Jamie Brisick's blog and articles, but had never read one of his books, until this one. He makes you feel like you are right there in the book with him and Peter, Westerly, and the other surfers. I can't wait for his next book to come out. It will definitely be difficult to top this book ... and its central star Westerly!

Brisick has obviously "been there, done that" and speaks with authority as a surfer and writer. I found "Becoming Westerly" on Peter Drouyn's transition to be well-written, touching, and insightful. Plumbs the depths of a complex individual. Well worth the read!

More than a surf book, an insightful look into a complicated human who happened to be one of the unsung heroes of modern surfing.Eyeopening and often funny with amazing historical context that travels time to understand the present day realities of a several particular cultures and this time we live in.

Jamie Brisick does a wonderful job of documenting this uniquely, flamboyant and beautiful character !!!

Remarkable story, well written by Brisick.

Incredibly well-written biography of a fascinating and complex character. This is a different type of biography though because the author takes you along with him as he discovers more and more what makes Westerly the person she has become. No-one could have written this except Brisick because he knows and loves the world Westerly came from but at the same time loves that she is helping to change the culture of that overly-macho scene.
