Q: Is the mailbox holder arm large enough for a 3X9 inch address area?

Thank you for your interest in our products! This mailbox post is specifically designed to have a mailbox mounted to the arm, so we cannot guarantee it can hold an address area. That said, the arm measures 5-1/2"W x 18-1/2"L.

Q: Will this fit over a 5x5 wooden post?

4x4 is the recommended post size

Q: how does the mailbox attach to the mailbox support arm?

If the mailbox comes with a bracket you can use galvanized wood screws to secure through the plastic bracket and into the wooded 2x4 insert. My mailbox did not so I bought and used 4 small "L" shape brackets from the deck hardware section in the big orange HD store. Fitted to mailbox first using short countersunk screws then installed with longer screws onto the mailbox bracket.
