Does it work on a shag carpet?

We have a thick wool carpet that our last rug cleaner savaged as it cleaned. After a cleaning the rollers would be red from the accumulated rug fibers it had dislodged. On the same carpet, our new Hoover picked up a LOT of dirt the previous cleaner missed, and there were NO red carpet fibers in its brushes. A thorough cleaning of our living room carpet we thought we were going to have to throw out was dramatic. The matted areas where there was a lot of traffic returned to their luxurious depth. I’m chiefly wanting a machine to thoroughly clean the carpet on my stairs. Don’t see many mentions of this. Is the tank big enough?

I really love this machine. It cleans really well. I like it because you can adjust the thickness of the area you will be cleaning. Great product

How heavy is this shampooer?

It's not that heavy but it's hard to push and pull.

Does this have an attachment for shampooing steps?

It has an attachment for upholstery which would work for stairs. Not sure how long the hose is, though so it might require lifting the machine up the stairs.
