Once again, it pays to buy high quality tools
This is a really well-made snake hook. It’s light, well-balanced, and shows a nice attention to detail, right down to the copper ferrule and the subtly eased edges and points of the hook. It’s sharp enough to get under a snake, but not sharp enough to inadvertently cut or puncture the snake. The golf club grip is just right. Plenty of room for two hands, if needed, and fits the hand nicely. I’m glad Doc went with stainless over aluminum for the hook - it’s less brittle, and much more durable. Plus the finish is much nicer. This hook is for use in the yard, although I could see carrying it if I’m going into the nearby woods during snake season. I wish I’d had it back in the day when I went on collecting trips during my undergraduate years studying biology. But we have a fair number of snakes around here, so I expect it will get plenty of use. There are cheaper hooks out there, but I bought this one because of the reasons mentioned above. Hard to tell from a written description and a few pictures; it turned out to be even better when I had it in my hands. Very well worth the money, in my opinion.

Lightweight but Sturdy!
I am thrilled with this hook! Our neighborhood is dealing with a large rat snake population explosion this year, and I’m trying to help them to safety. Being that these guys are fast and spooked from being constantly chased by shovels and the neighborhood poodle patrol, I’ve been using the hook to get them into a bucket and relocate them to somewhere more hospitable. I’m dealing with snakes between 3-7’ long and this is a great hook to have on hand. It’s extremely sturdy unlike the retractable ones, but lightweight. Easy to maneuver but light enough not to stress the snakes out too much. It’s definitely a handy tool to have nearby and it will be getting plenty of use throughout the summer.

Love These Hooks!
I've used the 33 inch version for years and have loved it like no other. I decided to buy my friends a hook and went with the 33 inch because I knew it would meet all of their needs, and added a 43 inch for myself. I'm very happy with both, they feel so nice in the hand, balanced, lightweight but sturdy. I love the design and have never seen them bend. Honestly I only use DocSeward hooks at this point, my others got shelved when I got my first one. You can't go wrong with either length, both are indispensable tools for a dedicated keeper or herper.

Worked like a charm! (Er, no pun intended)
Figured if I bought this, Murphy's law would certainly keep all the snakes out of my yard for the rest of the season. It did not. Two days after the hook arrived, so did a big, fat, cranky western diamondback rattlesnake. First test of the hook was a success! Snake was about 3.5' long and striking before I even touched it (And without bothering to rattle. Jerk.) Getting the hook under the coils and moving it to the bucket was easy (and the whole transfer would have been easy with a snake that was less of a jerk) but--purely due to user error--I touched the side of the bucket with the angry snake and she launched like she came out of a cannon. I loved the beveled edge which made it easy to get under the fat snake, the grip was really nice, hooking the jerk was easy, and other than the aforementioned operator error, it was a great first test of the hook! Edited 3 months and 23 rattlesnakes later: Still LOVE this hook.

Good Balance and Length
Nice balance, strength and a real good length. I bought it to replace a walking stick. I don’t use it for trapping or picking up a snake but rather to coax it away from the path I’m walking.

Incomplete
Time will tell with this. I purchased it for my son who's the designated snake wrangler when anyone in his neighborhood finds a rattler or copperhead in their yard. I gave it to him as a birthday gift last week but he hasn't needed to use it yet. It seems well made, shipped promptly and the email I got from the seller right after placing the order was a thoughtful touch.

Solid hook
This is my first snake hook, so nothing to compare to, but I’ve got no complaints thus far. Lightweight yet sturdy, comfortable in the hand, versatile, and good lookin too. *update: 14 months later, and I’m still very happy with my purchase. This hook has taken a beating, and I’ve used it well beyond its means (as an ad hoc walking stick on long snake hunts, and have admittedly put too much weight on it when I’m tired or traversing rough terrain… have even used it to hook roots to lightly pull myself up steep hills from time to time). After everything I’ve put it through it has held up phenomenally and still looks good. I’m considering ordering a couple extra, since manufacturers go in & out of business too often these days, so that if I lose or break this one I’ve got a backup
