An essential model for many Space Marine armies.
The Drop Pod is used in-game to deliver a unit to a point on the battlefield to do serious damage to your opponent or to serve as a distraction. With the current rules (6th Edition), you'll likely be best served by putting a ranged weapons unit inside, such as Sternguard Veterans or normal Tactical Marines depending on what you want to use it for.The model itself is an interesting challenge to assemble and paint. The mold lines on the model weren't as bad as other kits in the Space Marine line, such as the Assault Marines kit. There are a lot of pieces, and some are fairly fragile before the thing's fully assembled. These pieces are protected within the Pod's interior, so you won't have to worry about them once you're done. You'll likely have to do a partial assembly, paint the main components (at least base colors), then assemble and detail paint (highlighting, shading and so on).All in all, a fun kit that's serves a good purpose on the table.

Intricate
These are pretty challenging kits to build. At least the first one was. My son loves to use them with his space marine army.

Simple Kit, Needs Fitting
Drop pods are a lot of fun to field in 40k. With the advent of hull points, vehicles are a lot easier to pop. The drop pod avoids that problem and gets your troops in quickly and where you want them. The first thing about the kit is that it is not to scale with your marines, just like the other vehicles. Otherwise, this would be a massive kit, especially for a dreadnought drop pod (created by just not using the main dome like center piece of the floor and the harnesses that attach). The directions in this kit are relatively straightfoward because you just follow the images. The only part that can be problematic is putting the main exhaust and weapon housing in with the braces that hold the doors. Fully build the exhaust part and then try to place it with two of the braces, then add the other three. I found this helps to guide the braces, as well as keeps stability of the exhaust part. After it is built, the doors may not fully close due to a little overlap where the door will lay against the floor of the drop pod. All that needs to be done is shave that overlap and the doors will fit close enough to fully close or just lay against the drop pod with a slight amount of snugness. I've built two of these and have been pleased with how they both came out. Patience is a very important part of this kit though, and it is not to be rushed. However, it looks beautiful, is functional, and is a lot of fun to build. They look sharp on the table and when the doors are fully opened, have earned the nickname of "The Flower of Death" among the group I play with because they really make the space marines in them The Angels of Death.

More Drop Pods Please
When these first came out in the states I was kind of skeptical. It seemed a ridiculous model... it takes up a good chunk of space with its footprint. Barring that the kit itself is fun to put together. It can get a little intricate putting the center piece and restraints together but the over all finished model is well worth it i think.

Death from Above! For the Emperor!
Okay, I have 4 armies in the house, each for a different member of the family. Thanks to the intro sequence in Dawn of War, my kids think that best vehicle in the game is a drop pod. Well, now we have about 10 of these things in the house. On assembly, if you want the doors to be able to open and close, I would suggest magnetizing them with some small rare earth magnets. Plastic cement is a MUST for assembly, as it gives you time to "wiggle" the parts around to get the best fit. All in all - a solid kit!

Great for deep striking those Space Marines.
Very cool model, but take care assembling and consider painting it in parts before assembling. Most people add magnets to keep the doors closed for travel or when you want the model to appear closed.

It is definitely fun but a little more difficult than I thought
I love that its warhammer 40k and it goes perfectly with my space marines but it has a few too many small parts to go with it
