There Is Nothing Wrong with You: Going Beyond Self-Hate

Life changing
This was the first of Cheri’s books I read and upon finishing wanted to read everything she’d ever written. I return to it often when I’ve found myself feeling lost on the way.I have the kindle and hard copy BUT I’d give anything of it we’re available on audible. I can only imagine how great it would be to hear these words spoken, particularly knowing how Cheri feels about the spoken word. Hmmmm, perhaps I’ll record it myself…. Although I’d rather have it in her voice!!Best book ever!

Full of Insights!
I have read several of this author's books, and have found all of them to be full of insights and helpful reminders about various things we can do to bring ourselves back to the present, and find the joy within ourselves."There is Nothing Wrong With You" discusses the fact that many of us were conditioned as children to believe that we are not inherently good. Although those words may not have been said to us directly, we got the message everytime we were told that we "should have done this", "should be ashamed of ourselves", "shouldn't have done that", etc... And that it's these types of messages that led to the creation of the "internal committee" that exists within all (or at least most) of us - you know, that comittee in your head that judges you harshly, reminds you of the negatives about yourself and others, and basically drives you crazy whenever you're trying to make a difference in your life (smile)...The author ties all of this in with the ego - that part of ourselves that thrives on the power that we give to our "internal commitee" each time we believe the negative self-talk going on in our heads.Evolving through this idea of the ego & internal committe, the author provides several ideas of how to deal with, and overcome the belief that we're not inherently good - a belief which leads us to beat ourselves up within our mind all too often (we come to believe that this punishment of ourselves will somehow make us be "good" people - but does it really???).One of the main things I got from this book is the idea of having compassion for yourself. To ask yourself, if my best friend said to me the same things I'm saying to myself, would they remain my friend? Or, would I ever say this to someone I loved? If the answer is no, than it's a good idea to stop the voices in your head, and choose to have compassion for yourself - we all need compassion, so why not give it to yourself?Another good insight was Cheri Huber's "rule of thumb" which states: if the voice within you is saying anything that isn't loving & compassionate, it's your ego talking, and it's a lie - DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON JUST AS YOU ARE!!!Overall, I found this book to be an interesting, insightful, easy read, and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to silence the negative self-talk going on within your mind. Although this book is written from a buddhist perspective, you definitely don't need to be a buddhist to gain from all of the wonderful insights included within the pages of this book.

More than struck a chord
I heard about Cheri Huber from a psychologist over a decade ago. Not sure if I borrowed his or bought one on Amazon, but I was a bit turned off by the font. I thought I was reading a grade school book and it all seemed to simple in explanations.Fast forward more than a decade and I did an internet search about something and up popped Cheri Huber and this book. I took another shot and I’m glad I did. The font may be strange but it is a very personal and easy font. Think of it as if someone is having a conversation with you. It’s a quick read. It explains why you may be a dysfunctional person because that is what was imprinted on you from the beginning…by your own caregiver’s dysfunction. I immediately bought three more of Huber’s books…but I’m going back over this one again. Give her a try.

Helped me when I needed it
I found this book at a thrift store back in 2017 when I was living alone and in a pretty miserable state of depression and loneliness. This book meant so much to me at the time, it was a truly serendipitous find. After I’d read, highlighted, written all my little notes inside, I’d lent it out to various friends and unfortunately the last never returned it to me so I bought a brand new one! This copy isn’t as sentimental, but it was worth rebuying. The front cover has a weird cut on it, like it was cut from original packaging with a box cutter or something before being put in the amazon packaging. The inside is in pristine condition though. And it was delivered next day, which was very awesome.

Incredibly Insightful Psychotherapist and Zen Master Knows What Happened to you. Recognize yourself and heal.
Your value in this book is in your own mind's ability to recognize and relate to Cheri's work. That being said, she has proven to be, to me, a very long time seeker and student of both Psy, Dharma, and my own issues as a sentient being, that Cheri's insight into the human mind, especially into the developing mind of the child we all once were, is incredibly profound, revelatory, and of a level of insight I find amazing. Her grasp of human societal conditioning, the formation of the ego, the creation of a separate self, and the delusions most ALL of us create to varying degrees, is to me, mind blowing. SHE ALONE HAS AT LAST GIVEN ME THE TOOLS TO ESCAPE A LIFELONG ISSUE OF SELF-SABOTAGE, SELF-WORTH, SELF-DEPRECATION AND PATTERNS OF MISPERCEIVED FAILURE. I share that with the world in my love for that part of every one of us that is in me. Dr. Huber is a profoundly astute teacher who, by her deep insights into the birth of the human BEing in a socially conditioned world by untrained, unprepared parents who have no clue or training on how to focus their awareness to what a child needs most, can help anyone who can introspect and have insight into their own patterns. You must recognize yourself in her writing before it can truly help you, so if you cannot look within with honesty, it may be of no value to you. But for most, I consider it a must read for being a human and finding how truly to live your own life without suffering that which simply is so.

A common sense guide to life...
I approached it with a level of cynicism as I do with anything under the 'self help' banner. BUT, I was immediately struck by this simple, easy to read book. There is no waffly or gimmicky nonsense. Just a very simple revealing book that opened my eyes a little to all of the emotional baggage you carry around and reasons we let ourselves become sucked into lives daily battles. We choose what upsets us and what we let take over our lives. This book gives you a nudge in the right direction.

Unreadable
The faux handwriting font is unreadable. Never got past the first few pages, sadly. A waste of money XXXX

Lovely book
I loved everything about this book: the funky printing and doodles, but most importantly the content. It helped me greatly not to take myself too seriously!
