Variable speed vs three-speed fans
I wanted a variable speed fan as the uses are much more than a three-speed fan. The ability to adjust the fan speed--and the motor/blade volume--allows one to use this fan in everything from a baby's nursery to a garage. It's wonderful and the need to adjust the volume/speed is greater than you'd think for each individual situation.I have high 22-foot ceilings in my living room, and so much hot air is trapped up there in the winter it's crazy. So, I bought this fan and have it at about 30% of max speed pointed straight up to the ceiling (the fan tilts nicely on the robust metal stand), it's quiet enough to watch TV and not notice anything more than a dull "white noise" if I am listening for it, and the amount of air that now circulated off the hot cavern ceiling above is amazing. I sit on my couch and it's at least 6-7degrees warmer here than with the fan off. That's a lot!Percent of max speed and uses: I also use it as a gentle white noise napping fan in afternoons (15%); for cooling on my rowing and treadmill workouts (80%); for circulating air off my ceiling (30%); for speeding up clothes drying on my rack (50%); for airing out my bathroom when someone sets off a colon bomb I100%...lol...just kidding, more like 50%); for drying wet carpet (100%); for drying moldy basement (66%); for drying a wet dog (40%); for gentle air movement while you sleep (10%), etc. You'll find more uses once you have the fan and appreciate the speed variability. There are YT videos showing the electricity use of this fan, and on low power its drawing about 22 watts, and on high power it's drawing 66 watts (i.e. basically the same as a traditional incandescent 60 watt bulb). I almost never use it on highest power though unless I'm drying rugs or clothes. The noise is loud on full speed.I own many fans, including an 18-inch Patton all-metal, 3-speed industrial fan. Those are effective, but noisy. I adore the ability to adjust the speed infinitely for my needs. It's the best fan I have ever owned.

Really Moves the Air
This floor fan really works if you don’t have or don’t want a ceiling fan. I had ceiling fans in almost every room in my 1898 home. I couldn’t stand the look but knew that they do help in keeping the electric bill down. I installed antique style chandeliers in every room and though I loved the look the air circulation was gone. I found a smaller Vornado fan at one of the big box stores and thought I’d give it a try. Much to my surprise it worked better than I expected. While it was very effectively moved the air but lacked the sufficient amount needed for my two rooms that are 263.5 square feet. One has 11’ and the other 10’ ceilings. I purchased this larger model and it works great. The fan can be a little loud on the highest setting but not to the point that prevents falling asleep. It doubles as a white noise machine for me. Buy this fan and you will get the air circulation without the ugly ceiling fans.

723 is Totally Perfect for Me!
I live in the back bedroom of a fairly large house. The front of the house has excellent air conditioning, but the back where I live does not. To keep bills down, 100% of cooling, and almost all heating for my bedroom is accomplished by constantly circulating house air into my room using a floor fan which runs day and night. Never shutting the fan off places high demands on it. We just went through a very hot summer, last two days were mega hot scorchers, but my room has easily stayed cool using the Vornado 723.I've used the 723 exactly one month, and it's an understatement to say I'm fully satisfied. I'm really proud of my new fan. I worried for months which fan to get, because I knew my old ones were wearing out. I strongly debated whether I should get the Vornado 293, because it's rated by Vornado to blow 685 CFM on high speed, vs 583 CFM for the 723. But the 723 is significantly less expensive. I decided for my purposes, since I'm not in a work environment, and the 293 was going to cost me 32.5% more than the 723, I didn't think the extra price was worth gaining another 100 CFM. If the 293 had a 10 year warranty I would have bought it, but both the 723 & 293 Vornado fans have an identical 5 year warranty.Re noise level, I've found the 723 to be very easy on the ears, even on high (I run it mostly on high during the hot summer). Months ago I bought one of those squirrel cage fans, which are typically used to dry up wet floors. That did move a lot of air, but the noise was so harsh on my ears it went right back to the store. This Vornado 723 has been a real pleasure to use, with the excellent and extremely adequate air movement for my bedroom, combined with a relatively low noise level.I also like that it looks pretty nice. Better than that, it doesn't fall over easily like my previous floor fans. The stand which supports the 723 is very sturdy. I have absolutely nothing to complain about with this fan. It's an important tool for keeping me cool!

Vornado brings air to life.
Outstanding fan. I wanted to wait until the weather got warmer. I live on the third floor—excellent for winter, tough in summer. So, for the last four years, I've tried to upgrade my fans. I've been successful, but the finalized deal was this fan. Wow! Talk about air movement—this fan has it. The fan itself is really perfect. The base, being a bar, makes it easy to place anywhere and it's not very heavy, making it easy to move around. The fan moves air so well that, with the right angle, you feel it throughout the whole room. Perfect for moving AC cool air. Nice on the pocket. The on/off switch might be hard to reach, but with smart plug technology, you're good to go. But just know, smart plugs won't work with push buttons, only knobs. So it's a big A++ for this Vornado fan for its easy placement, perfect size for a big room, very easy cleaning, and it will definitely help keep down my electric bill. P.S. The fan is a little noisy, but if you have to move air, you gotta make some noise.
