Absolutely the cutest and most functional lunch box I've ever had!
So I've been eyeing the cat bento for... eons it seems. I finally worked up the courage to buy it, even though the review I had seen said it was small (even had a photo of it showing it was slightly taller than a regular sized soda can). I was initially worried about the size, but figured since I'm in love with the design, it's leak proof, microwavable safe (save for the clear plastic top), and the main function I'm needing it is to have something tide me over while I'm at work or in school then it'd be just perfect for me. The package came in a bit sooner than expected. Once I opened it, I realized that it was MUCH bigger than what I thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong, it's not HUGE huge but if you were to put the two teirs and hat/cup next to each other, you pretty much realize it's the perfect size for one meal. Anybody who's worried about over-eating and wanting something functional... THIS is definitely a bento you should look at! The teirs when stacked don't stick, so the band makes it worry free when carrying from place to place (even moreso if you use a furishiki/bandana to wrap and carry your bento around). I tested the leak-proof lid by putting water in it and shaking it vigorously, turning it upside down, all kinds of ways.... no leaks ^.~ The hat has a smidge of space in between it and the clear lid, so since I've been wanting to find a use for it, I've been putting tea bags under the hat and using it as a tea cup ^.^ I figured if I wanted soup or something of the like I could bring a thermos and use it to have three portions of food instead of just the two.Design wise.. I love it. Anybody that's seen this bento absolutely love it! I had gotten another more traditional/classical looking bento about the same time and... it just doesn't compare to all the comments I've recieved from having this bento with me. Not to mention it's the little things like this bento design that actually make me enjoy making my own healthy meals for it to show off and benefit from when eating out of it ^.^ Not to mention beCAUASE it's so small AND has the leak proof for anything juicy it makes it MUCH much easier to carry around! All in all, I never thought I'd be so in love with a lunch box before.... but I sure am with this one and I definitely reccomend it to anyone that's looking for a healthy portioned meal!

Adorable and very useful!
This bento is a little small, but I love it. It forces me to fill it with nutrient-dense foods. I noticed many reviewers being upset about how you can't really keep food in the top, black part. Well, no, duh, you can't. It's a bowl. You flip it over and add hot/boiling water to it and some of the ingredients in other compartments. It's not intended to hold your soup for you, you're supposed to make it fresh where you have your lunch. It's not great for a lunch on the go, but if your office has a break room, you can get an electric tea kettle. A small bowl of hot soup, even something as simple as miso soup is a nice comfort on a cold day.

Adorable and pretty functional. It is small however, for those of you who like big lunches.
I really do love this bento set. It's super cute, big enough for MOST of my lunches, and fits neatly in my lunch bag. I tend to snack more often than eat big meals so the size is perfect for me. However, I did had it leak a few times, even when I put things like baked sweet potatoes in them, so not even something that's super runny. In fact it leaked every single time I had something relatively moist in it. If I had meatballs in it (no liquid there) it obviously didn't leak. But it works well enough and it's adorable so I use it all the time.

so cute, just right.
I was worried it would come apart when I threw it in a bag to take to work, but the band is rubberized, tight enough to hold, and fits into little notches on the top and bottom so it can't slip off to one side. Even stuff like curry washes off easily, too. I like to put a few grapes or baby carrots in the top bowl, which is actually kind of small (smaller than the standard miso soup bowl, and the watertight lid from the section below bumps up into that space when assembled). The other sections are plenty big for the rest of my lunch. Also, it's a lucky cat. Who doesn't want a lucky cat??

Very Happy!
This product is so cute! I got it for a gift for my boyfriend. I ordered it on the 20th and it came in on the 20th! Brand new and looks just like the image. A bonus is that it came with 2 packages of family chopsticks, that's 20 pairs of chopsticks! I have already used a pair and they're pretty good. I haven't opened the bento yet because it's his present, but I'm sure he's going to love it too. Very satisfied with this purchase!BTW, I got it from the seller JVS.

Gave food a nasty taste
It is definitely cute, but smaller than expected and I don’t believe whatever plastic or material it’s made out of is food-grade. Microwaving food in it makes the food taste like nasty plastic and even when I didn’t microwave anything in it, the food still got a plastic taste to it after sitting in it for a few hours until lunchtime. I never tried washing it in the dishwasher, only hand washed so I don’t know if it was dishwasher safe. I threw mine away after trying it three different times and felt like I was eating toxic food.

Cute, but not worth the price.
My biggest issue with the set is how insecurely it all fits together. Yes there is a strap, but while there is a decent sized notch for it to fit into at the top, the bottom notch is very shallow. Therefore, the strap slips off fairly easily. I can't just toss it in my bag and trust it won't fly open mid-commute. Similarly, the plastic cover for the middle compartment is a fairly loose fit as well making it not secure enough for liquids if the container should be set on its side.I can't find any info on whether this item is microwave safe. I've tried it with some light re-heating with OK results (definitely would not trust the previously mentioned plastic cover in a microwave, it would warp for sure.)All in all, for the quality, it is overpriced by about $10.

Cute Snack Food Container, But Read The Fine Print
We bought two of these at the same time, in different designs. Our experience is the same with both, so the reviews will be the same. Kotobuki 280-266 Sushi Chef Bento Box Set, White was the other one we purchased. These bento box sets are exceptionally cute. That's why they were purchased for inclusion in our lunch kit container stash. The designs are eye-catching and kid-friendly. They are a great lunch-time conversation starter for the junior high social scene. They are easily matched to their owners when misplaced. The ability to use the "head" portion as a bowl is brilliant. They are fantastic for packing along stir-fry meals, buttered rice with meat and veggies, or noodles in pesto. We also found them very useful for organizing and carrying small-to-moderate size snacks for keeping up blood sugar throughout the day.However...We found that these bento boxes were not as capacious as we thought when purchasing them. (To be fair, we should have looked more closely at the specified dimensions.) This isn't necessarily a drawback depending on what is packed, but for the types of lunches we pack (lots of fresh fruits, veggies, home cooked entrees, etc.), it was inadequate. If you're packing smaller lunches or more rice / noodle lunches (for which bento boxes were originally meant), you're probably fine.We also found the surrounding strap awkward - sometimes difficult - to get completely on and off the bento box. Essentially, when you put the pieces together, the bottom and top pieces need to be perfectly aligned so that the strap can be slid into proper position to keep the components from splitting up and toppling. The strap is a thick elastic band. This is suitable for its purpose (holding everything together tightly), but it makes it difficult to pull it wide enough to slip into place while simultaneously trying to hold the assembled stack in exactly the right alignment. This might be easier for someone with more dexterity, but I found this frustrating. The kids were especially frustrated because they often could not put it back together to prevent food remnants from floating loose into their bags. (We also found that it did not do much for keeping the container together when the assembled container is inevitably dropped.)Perhaps this would work better utilizing a variation on the tiffin box design?Last, even though the top ("head") exists for use as a bowl and there is a plastic lid that fits between it and the middle ("face"), we experienced leakage. It is possible the manufacturers do not intend for these to hold soups, but instead rice, noodles, thick sauces, toppings. Again, I return to the idea that maybe a tiffin box design would work better, and perhaps even inclusion of gaskets. These bento boxes are likely most suited toward people who are packing lunches for smaller children who will have adult assistance, or very portion-controlled / size constrained lunches. They will be best for dry or moist food, but I can't recommend them for wet / liquid foods - those should still go in a different, leak-proof container. Pre-teens will enjoy these, but you may wish to have two on hand for a single child's lunch, given how much the average pre-teen can ingest in one sitting. People with poor dexterity, arthritic hands, or fine motor control issues will be better suited to a differently designed product. These bento boxes are cute enough that they are still in our lunch stash, but they are now primarily used as back-seat snack containers for road trips. If I see them in the future with a modified functional design, I will consider purchasing them again. Kotobuki 280-266 Sushi Chef Bento Box Set, White

Cute and all, but
Very cute, and I can see the quality isn't bad. My daughter immediately fell in love with it. However... she is 6 and with multiple tries, cannot put on the strap herself without help, therefore I haven't really tested out the product yet. Without the strap the 3 pieces cannot stay together, so pretty useless for now.
