POCKET FIELD GUIDE: Survival Knots: Volume I

Some good material in the book, but spotty in terms of helping to tie some knots. The prusik loop has many steps shown when about half the number would suffice. Also seems to show finished prusik with the loop bend at a pressure point rather than off to one side. Other knots are shown as the finished product with maybe a written description, but no step-by-step illustrations.

When you need a good knot, you really need a good knot!! If like me you can't remember them because you don't use them, thus is your book.Creek Stewart is a great teacher. Look for more of his bookletss on survival. They are short, concise and extremely informative. Also look for his SOS series on what people don't know what is right in front of them to survive a bad situation. Down to earth knowledge at your fingertips!

Pocket sized! As promised, as you can see. I would’ve given it 5 stars but for how small and brief it is (which is still plenty), I think it’s overpriced. But that’s an Amazon thing, it may be cheaper in a bookstore. Overall a good knot selection in a compact book with good visuals and brief but handy explanations! Short and simple and to the point, recommend!

Like all the books in the field guide series, this book is compact and thin making it easy to pack or carry on your person. This is what I was looking for! In a stressful situation or if depending on a novice to help you, having a pocket reference guide to some of the most useful knots is a God sent. Written for any level reader, it first makes clear the terminology that is going to be used without making it sound like a lecture. Creek never talks down to his readers, he talks to you. This helps on many levels. After this the instructions along with the clear B&W drawings makes it easy to recreate the knots featured. At the end of the book is an area for your own personal notes. In my opinion, there's only two things I think would make this book better; print it on waterproof paper (would add to cost be worth it) and a spiral spine, to open and hold the book open or flat while viewing the knot needed.Overall, exactly what I needed in my kit.

Well written and has great visuals. Can be a bit tough to follow the diagrams, but overall an excellent guide to knot tying. Recommend for scouts and those who wish to learn very important survival skills

Creek has done it again! Short, sweet, precise and super helpful. I found it to be perhaps the easiest knot tying book I have seen to date. Great illustrations and one could easily follow along and learn quickly. Even though I have been out of doors most of my life and teaching Disaster Preparedness for years my knot tying ability lagged big time! This little gem of a book really helps and I am spending time with it most nights now mastering each knot in it. Creek does it again. That's why I own and have read every one of his books.

Vey useful item to have with you in your pack when ever venturing into the wilderness. Contains a variety of different knots for applying to different applications.

The two half hitches, which are referenced for a number of uses in the book, are tied incorrectly in the illustrations. For reference, Ashley Book Of Knots (ABOK) 54, the two half hitches should enter from one direction and exit the opposite direction. The knot in the illustrations is a larks head and because of the bight is a weaker knot.

A short and straightforward book and the essentials of knot tying. Covers the most used types of knots that the average person would require.Recommend.
