Longer Ray5 long term review.
I had never used a laser engraver prior to purchasing this product. There are so many options to choose from it can be difficult to make a decision. I was researching many different engraveres. I happened across a few You Tube videos reviewing the Longer Ray5. Each reviewer was delighted with this engraver and gave it high marks. That persuaded me to purchase the Ray5. I have been so happy that I did. It only took a few days to receive the machine. It is very well packaged and protected for shipping. There is assembly required but it is easy. This is probably the most organized product to help you assemble it. If you need extra help There are Tou Tube videos available taking you step by step through the process. Once assembled it was time to put it to work. It comes with some materials and files so you can be using it right away. It also includes safety glasses. It is crucial that you wear them when operating the laser. Severe vision damage will occur otherwise! I recommend you use Lightburn software to operate the engraver. You can use Laser GBRL which is free but my opinion is that Lightburn is the way to go. As good as the machine has been I had a recent occasion to have contact with their Customer Service. I was surprised at how responsive they were. No joke... they were the best customer service I have ever dealt with. It makes me confident that should I ever have a problem they'll be there to help me. So what I've upgraded so far is; added a honeycomb bed, exhaust fan, air assist and cover. You don't NEED those things but there nice to have. So if you're in the market for a laser engraver I highly recommend the Longer. You won't be sorry.

Good Quality Entry Level
I had my husband put the engraver together for me, and I'm glad I did. The written instructions weren't fantastic, so he used the video aids. He said the guy in the video kept inadvertently covering what he was doing with his hands, which made it hard to see, but he did get it figured out. I had a bit of trouble getting started with engraving because even though I followed the directions for setting it up with LightBurn, the laser head kept trying to move out of bounds, which caused the machine to error out. I found that I had to actually manually position the laser head to my starting point and use the "frame" button in the software to make sure I was staying in bounds. I am not sure how it would work with the computer-less functionality though, and I'm not brave enough to try it. It takes a bit of playing with the settings to get a nice even burn without it being too light or too dark, but once you figure it out, it works really well and I'm really happy with the quality, especially considering this is an entry-level engraver. I very well may decide to upgrade in the future.

First class equipment
Total laser novice here, this was my first time to ever try anything with a laser engraver, and it is GREAT. Very impressed with the clear instructions, the packaging of hardware and the very high quality materials. Everything went together perfectly. Note: My machine came with the gantry pre-assembled, but in order to install it onto the large lower frame, I had to remove the lower wheels from the gantry (it has two uppers and one lower wheel per side). The instructions don't mention this, and they don't explain how to use the eccentric bushing on the lower wheel to adjust the wheel pressure, but it all worked out with just a little bit of fiddling with the eccentric. I made some test runs using LaserGRBL, writing the nc files to the included TF card. Perfect. And the TF card comes with full instructions, examples, and recommended settings on it also. I really like being able to keep the PC separate and control the machine from the touchscreen. Combined with the lovely hardware this is a 5-star recommendation for sure.

Outstanding value for the money
I wanted to get into laser engraving with a simple, but capable starter machine. The Ray5 proved to be just the ticket. It came well packaged, with clear assembly instructions. The parts were finely machined and fit perfectly. The 5W laser can mark, engrave and even cut 5 MM plywood in multiple passes. The movement is very precise, at least at the low speeds I use. I use a tablet to control it via WiFi, but the built in touch screen works fine too. You can generate drive files using the free programs Laser Burn or Laser GRBL or hand program in G-Code.

Buy it without hesitation
It's a good investment; the products are customizable and expandable, and they come with plenty of accessories. It's a solid brand and highly recommended.

Immediately test and report any failures in product. I should've asked for return.
This thing sounds like scratching a blackboard. Hasn't worked properly since I received it.has already scratched all the #'s off bar that the laser rides on. I have maybe used 5hrs total.need @ least 10w to cut .

This machine took some figuring out and made me crazy in the beginning and then I figured it out and it was working well…for a while. It was seamless and I was really excited. And then it started to have issues uploading the file so I would have to restart each time to get it to work, and then slowly but surely it stopped uploading the files at all. I can only assume it’s a firmware issue but when I try to update the firmware, I can’t do it because it’s a .exe and I only have apple products. So this machine that I had purchased so that I could make a side income is sitting and collecting dust. I’m beyond frustrated with this. If anyone could help, I’d be most grateful.

El producto está excelente, pero ya me empezo a fallar uno de los motores de unos de los ojos, aún no cumple el año, tiene garantía el motor aún? De ahí en fuera el producto está súper...
