ZIEIS Multi-Purpose Digital Kitchen and Food Scale, Z136-Surge, Black

I bought this as a gift for a foodie, then the whole family started using it. :) Easy to use, easy to read, any bowl can be put on top and tared. I like the way that the display is faced so it's easy to read with a dish on top. Does both English & metric measurements and works both plugged in and with a battery.10/04/14 Update:My foodie thought that this would be a perfect gift for her sister, so I bought one for sister too. She appreciates the product. It's handy for making rolls that grow to the same size - 2 oz is just right.Next, I began canning; it didn't take long to recognize the need for a scale because canning measurements are frequently in pounds. :) I found that I was borrowing this scale from my foodie, so I ordered one for myself. I like the direction that the screen faces because it's easy to read. I can place it anywhere -- even the middle of my kitchen table -- because it reverts to battery when it is unplugged. Perfect!

Scale arrived on time, in perfect condition, and measures known weights with accuracy. It is everything as advertised, and seems well made, despite being mostly plastic and made in China.I liked this scale out of many others I looked at on Amazon because :1. It has a wall plug and stays powered on for as long as you want.2. The readout is still visible even with a large bowl on top3. It has a 10 year warranty. This indicates to me that Zieis is confident they build a quality product and that it's worth paying a little more.

Bake artisan bread and pizza weekly, and after owning other scales was looking for one with the following features:- not a flat surface model where you cannot see the readings due to the bowl/item you're weighing covering the display screen- must have the ability to turn off the "auto shut-off" feature- power adaptor capable- easy ability to cycle between British and metric units from the top of the unitThis was one of the few scales that had these features, and after a year of use it's perfect. I would buy again without question. Of the four features I was looking for, I could do without the power adaptor, since I'm still on the original batteries, and I'm using the scale at least a few times a week.

I am very pleased with this scale. Unlike others, which reviews I have read, it weighs precisely the same each time. Unlike the picture, I was pleased that it also had a square plastic "bowl" included (which fit the top of the scale). And it is not necessary to put batteries in for the plug in (included) to work. I wanted to give it a 4.5, but couldn't.

I purchased the ZIEIS | 13 lb scale, and plugged it in right when it arrived. As soon as I plugged it in, using the surge suppressor thing, I had sparks in my hand and yanked out the scale from the wall. I had an electrician out the next day, believing the problem may have been at my end, but the electrician could find nothing wrong with my wall plug, and thinks the scale plug may have been bad. The seller had no problem with my return and did offer to send a replacement, but given what I had seen from plugging in the scale & supressor, I declined on getting a replacement.

The tray arrived broken. When I went to the Zies website (as directed to do within 72 hours of receiving shipment) the website said it was down, not available and to come back another time. I tried to rectify through Amazon but that was a nightmare not worth having. I am regretting my purchase of the scale and my Prime account subscription. Things are better purchased in person, then you know what you are getting. The scale itself looks much better in the photo, cheap in real life. Don't bother.

1st one didn't work, but sent replacement right away no questions asked. Second one works great love that it can be used with batteries or electricity. Would by again!

Scale checked okay for accuracy. Construction a little flimsy but in line for the price point. Will not operate on ac adapter. Did not check to see if scale is at fault or if the adapter is bad. Sticker indicated the scale had passed quality control, so my guess is a bad adapter from a third party vendor. Returning item.
