#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The epic story of the greatest quest in all of science—the holy grail of physics that would explain the creation of the universe—from renowned theoretical physicist and author of The Future of the Mind and The Future of Humanity. When Newton discovered the law of gravity, he unified the rules governing the heavens and the Earth. Since then, physicists have been placing new forces into ever-grander theories. But perhaps the ultimate challenge is achieving a monumental synthesis of the two remaining theories—relativity and the quantum theory. This would be the crowning achievement of science, a profound merging of all the forces of nature into one beautiful, magnificent equation to unlock the deepest mysteries in science: What happened before the Big Bang? What lies on the other side of a black hole? Are there other universes and dimensions? Is time travel possible? Why are we here? Kaku also explains the intense controversy swirling around this theory, with Nobel laureates taking opposite sides on this vital question. It is a captivating, gripping story; what’s at stake is nothing less than our conception of the universe. Written with Kaku’s trademark enthusiasm and clarity, this epic and engaging journey is the story of The God Equation . Review: Very Good Easy to Follow Book on a Complex Subject - This was a excellent book. I find the title to be somewhat misleading, but it does fit. The book goes through the history of physics and all of the mathematical discoveries that have lead to string theory and how they all fit together. It is very fascinating to learn the history of all of physics and how all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together by some of the greatest physicists. The author also talks about how it cannot be proven and is not definitive, but mathematically it is the best solution we currently have. Very good book. Review: A thought-provoking book - Spiritual seekers try to find and understand the mind of god. Some physicists are trying to incorporate it into equations. Michio Kaku is that rare scientist that is capable of explaining things to simpletons like me the concepts and progress of modern research into the meaning of life. While most of use have heard of Einstein's theory of relativity, a majority cannot fathom the intricacies of general relativity and special relativity. Those who can wade through Einstein's famous theories sometime come across the Dirac Equation and Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. In this book, Professor Kaku guides us through the breakthroughs in understanding the universe starting with Newton and Galileo. After reading and rereading the book, I found myself reeling as I tried to comprehend Maxwell's equations and the oft-mentioned string theory and the possibility that we live in eleven dimensions. That being said, any intelligent person curious about reality and the meaning of life will benefit from reading The God Equation. Even if you become lost and disoriented, you will be blessed by reading chapter 7. This is a wonderful book for seekers of truth.

A thought-provoking book
Spiritual seekers try to find and understand the mind of god. Some physicists are trying to incorporate it into equations. interesting and informative read, though author makes a somewhat strange detour at the end
concisely written and informative. though it does take a detour in the last couple of pages into the author's views on religion/spirituality in a way that seems out of place and unnecessary.

Reality
I have read a number of books on physics and Michio Kaku should win a Nobel for his communication skills. That being said, since Einstein theories, physics has turned into a game where scientists have turned into gossips. A gossip is a person who takes an idea or hypothesis without a provable truth and treats the hypothesis as truth. The they build out a complete theory based on this very shaky foundation and find some semi truths that can actually do work but will never find the complete truth because the foundation is built on sand. Physics will drift from here because students accept these semi truths and try to build even further. The old generation who controls physics will have to dye off and everything they have built will have to be torn down leaving only the provable facts and then start over again. Even today physicists speak of gravity as a pulling force of matter to matter. They even think they see virtual particles from a man made vacuum ignoring the idea that their vacuum is filled with dark matter, neutrinos and space localities that are gravity itself. I've read many books on physics and Michio's book is the first to even mention that gravity is not mass pulling on mass. This book is the best book on the current state of physics notwithstanding my objections to quantum physics huge problems. I'm just sad that I'm too old to see what will become of the new theories once the old has been torn down and a new perspective is taken inclusive of the few provable facts left behind.

A good summary history of physics
The author did a fabulous job (he thanks his editor and others) writing the history of physics -- I take this to be a introductory course for the non-physics major BUT it would serve as a very good introduction to all of physics and a breakdown of material the physics major would be studying. The historical line makes it more understandable with names, dates and achievements and failures. Don't miss the NOTES at the end of his book which goes a bit deeper in some of the material. Well worth the money!

He is very knowledgable physicist
Just a group of pages left, I love Kaku’s books, this is my 3rd plus one other delivered today

Incredibly well written with profound insight
This is my absolute favorite book! Not only does world renowned physicist Michio Kaku mention what the purpose of the God Equation is but also how we can get there and what human kind has already done. This book gives me hope that we will find the solution at some point. This is also fairly easy to read if you don’t understand the topic that well. Totally recommend!

Poorly Edited but an Easy Read for the Topic
I've read many books for the math-challenged but well-educated reader who is very interested in quantum theory and cosmology. This one has a compelling title, a seductive cover and an author with a stellar reputation in string theory and quantum physics, but who falls short in his writing (at least for the lay reader). The book often It reads as if it were self-published and (poorly) self-edited. Much of the wording is frustrating, omitting logical bridges (when they exist) between analogy and fact, and distracting from both factual material and reading flow. There are some fine comments and concepts, and nice quotes (some poorly illustrative, I think) from other current and past luminaries, but the writing, like that of many scientists, elite thinkers and medical scholars, really needs professional editing in order to bridge the "comprehension gap" effectively and engage the (educated) layperson. The author thanks his editor, but IMO, whoever edited this book did a poor job. (BTW, Prof. Kaku has a long list of wonderful accomplishments, making it unfortunate that chose to include sensationalized quasi-science cable TV shows among them. I wish I understood the language of higher mathematics and could understant things like 10- and 11-dimension environments, but alas I must rely on geniuses who can dumb it down but retain accuracy. There is a small handful of physicists who do that well, but Professor Maku does not appear, from this book anyway, to be as good at that as I hoped.

Good and straightforward to understand
As someone who has a 'passing' knowledge and understanding of physics, mainly through watching programmes such as Horizon etc, I found this to be well written for someone like me to understand. I have always enjoyed watching programmes presented by Michio Kaku. He has the ability to explain some pretty mind boggling physics, in a way that even I can grasp. This book is no exception. He leads you on a journey, laying out explantions of theories in a manageable form. On occasion, I did have to re-read a few pages to fully grasp some areas, but given the subject I didn't find it daunting and it did give the brain a good shake-out. :-)

Amazing book
I'm not a physicist and before reading this book I had only a small amount of knowledge about physics. This book blew my mind ( I have to admit that a couple of times I had to read parts of it twice) I also knew the author Michio Kaku, by seeing him in documentaries and interviews, in this book he does an amazing job to help me a layperson to understand and excited about the subject matter, he does an incredible job in getting the attention of the reader, while lighting our curiosity to keep reading. The subject matter in the hands of someone else could have easily snuff out my curiosity, but Michio Kaku kept my eyes on the page and my imagination and my desire to learn more, expanding like a black hole in space
