great product for road trip - kid tested
I got this for a road trip... a really long road trip.I mounted the wireless IR transmitter in the rear of the center console. The IR transmitter has a 12v red and black wire that I wired up to the car. It has a channel A with left/right RCA connector and a channel B with left/right RCA connector.NOTE: Channel A goes to one channel (meaning one headphone usines channel A), the other channel goes to the 2nd headphone. You can have both headphones on the same channel. I found the kids doing this alot to listen to what the other was doing on their side. The headphones are adjustable and fit a 7 year old and a 4 year old just fine. They take standard batteries, which is good for a road trip.NOTE: The headphones turn off after a certain period if no sound is coming through which is VERY GOOD.Channel A on the headphone is indicated by a Red light and Channel B is indicated by a Green light which is handy if you are trying to figure out if your child is on the correct channel for what their audio is connected to.During a 10 day road trip we had NO issues with this setup.NOTE: The IR transmitter must have line-of-sight to the headphones but unless something covers the IR box COMPLETELY it still works.NOTE: The IR transmitter box DOES have an On/Off switch.Great Product!!!!!!!!!!

headphones
These headphones are horrible. The signal goes in and out and is never consistent. When we take trips I have to pull over and try to re-establish a signal because my kids are complaining saying that the sound has gone out again. They are not durable at all the cushion comes off very easy and is difficult to put back on. The only good thing about these headphones is that they collaspe for storage, other than that don't waste your money.

Average
My kids enjoy using the headphones for short and long trips; however, making adjustments to the headstrap each time causes the band to crack near the headphone.

works acceptably, but sounds muffled and headphones not comfy
For the price, this is a steal - two headsets and a transmitter with two available channels. The headsets are not comfortable, putting too much physical pressure on the ears. They aren't large enough in circumference to go completely over the ears, so I find myself wanting to reposition the headset often. The headsets have no high end and give audio quality much like that of the original VHS system way back when. This is too bad because while traveling in a car, it's the high end that you need most to overcome road noise. There is no audio noise (hiss or hum). The volume control on the headset is easy to use and the channel selection is indicated with bright red and green LEDs, so you won't have to turn on a light to be sure you are on the channel you want. Thankfully, you can turn the headsets off to conserve the AAA batteries. The LED's that provide the infrared light for communicating with the headsets are not bright to the eye, so will not be distracting when viewing video in a dark car or room. The transmitter is small, light and easily placed. You could stick it just about anywhere with some Velcro.I'm using this system in a house, not a car, so I had to go to Radio Shack and get an AC adapter to provide 12volts converted from 115VAC (that was another $20 for me to spend). Having the transmitter about ten feet away from the headset (receiver) is not a problem. I've had no audio dropouts or distortion.

Peace at last!
Added these to the video system in the family car before driving 17 hours each way for vacation. They worked great! The wireless capability allowed me to remove wires from the passenger space, and the sound was quiet and clear (verified both by my own testing and lack of complaints from the kids). The ability to support 2 separate audio channels (both in stereo) meant each child could have their own video program -- and that was a huge win! The overall result was the most peaceful drive we've had in a long time....Summary:- Supports 2 stereo audio channels (selectable on each headphone)- Noise level is very low- Headphones fit well over the ears to block out external noise- Headphone batteries (2 AAA) lasted for more than 30 hours of use- I had good experience with the physical range of the headphones -- they worked well farther off-center from the transmitter than I expected (up to 45 degrees per my visual estimate)- (Note: in our case the headphones were used less than 6 ft. from the transmitter)- The transmitter requires an external source of 12V power (there is no power supply in the kit)- Sound levels were good with the transmitter connected directly to the line-level audio outputs from media players
