Looks great but not efficient.
Aesthetically pleasing product, however, when it comes to durability it does not live up. There is a metal piece connected to the wood piece that allows for the “twisting” mechanism of the grinder. Almost always does the metal piece fall out and into the salt/pepper container. I’ve tried supergluing and hammering the pieces back together, which temporarily fixes the problem, but it’s a hassle doing it ever so often. Looks great but not efficient.

Very nice - good quality - not a huge reservoir - recommended
These are very nice salt & pepper mills. If you've even come this far to research, I'd say just buy them!We got ours from cooking.com via Amazon (because of free shipping not offered at cooking.com), though now I see a different seller (Wayfair) on Amazon. As of today, cooking.com is back ordered, citing enormous demand. The salt mill will not give you a light 'dust' of salt - it doesn't go that fine, but for coarse sea salt, seasoning a baked potato is perfect. They look just as nice on the table as they do in the picture. They do NOT have the words 'Racheal Ray' printed on the wood as the picture here makes it appear. The 'window' of each unit is actually an acrylic tube that sits in the center of the mill and serves as the reservoir. It is quite sturdy. The only thing that I would say might be a drawback is that you can't place a TON of material in each mill. If you have a large family and use a lot of salt and pepper, you may find you need to refill these more often than you'd like. Highly recommended.EDIT (2015-Aug-12): I am adding reducing my original rating by one start because, as others have experienced, the metal piece that transfers force from the top knob to the mill shaft fell away from the wooden knob after about a year on the pepper mill, which we use more than the salt. Please see the photo I have uploaded. Here is what I did: 1) Press the torque plate into the wooden knob. I used an arbor press, but a socket and a vice will do. 2) Drill three 3/32" holes through the plate an into the wood about 3/8" deep. 3) Install small cap head wood screws. I used screws that are normally used for mounting servos in RC planes.

Came apart after a month
I should have heeded some of the other reviews. The salt grinder base came apart when one of the two retaining screws fell off. I found another (small) screw to replace it with, but discovered that neither screw had actually been screwed into the wood. Instead, they had been wedged between the grinder and the wooden body. Someone in China couldn't be bothered to actually screw down the plates. Examination of the pepper mill showed no such issue, but that probably came down a separate assembly line. Now that I drilled pilot holes and set new screws, the unit should last a little longer, but I'm not hopeful. While I had it apart, I noticed the grinder was already showing signs of wear. I doubt it will make it a year.

They can be quirky, but they work.
I use these for my pink salt and gourmet pepper blend. If you're thinking of gifting these to someone, it's a good concept, but quirky as these are they may annoy your recipient.Quirks: 1, the fasteners/coarseness adjusters have a tendency of loosening as you use the grinder. 2, traces of salt/ pepper get jolted out the bottom when you set them down after use. Maybe keep some sort of tray to set them down into.I like having the little windows in the sides that let me see how much I have left. Also, the manufacturers choice to use wood for materials adds an aesthetic trait to it that is a bit of a challenge to find in other grinders with its design.

Purchased 4 years ago, reviewed now
Long-term review... We bought these in December 2014. They look nice and work well, although the grind size isn't adjustable. The salt one just stopped working in September 2018 after being used regularly. You can decide what that means for durability. :) One thing I didn't like, although maybe they're all like this, is it would leave a little salt/pepper on the table that I have to clean up.

Sadly disappointed
I really like Rachel's products but this salt and pepper shaker did not perform anywhere near their good looks. The wood is beautiful but the mechanism in both the salt and pepper shaker are of very poor quality and the price is significant. It was the first time I returned a RR product.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
It is April 7th. I ordered this set after my first set finally wore out. I had my first set for about 2 years. I used them both for black pepper corns. Average life of my first set was 12 months each. This new set, the first one wore out in February and the last on just quit on me tonight. I feel like Rachael Ray cooks WAY more than I do. Why are her pepper grinders wearing out so quickly? The metal piece wears the wood out and then the piece just falls out. They are very easy to use, but the durability is horrible.Wish I could get my money back, but it is too late.

VERY DISAPPOINTING!! I had high hopes for this ...
VERY DISAPPOINTING!!I had high hopes for this salt and pepper mill. Within 2 months of receiving them the pepper mill stopped working because the metal piece at the top of the device that allows the grinder to turn came loose and fell into the mill itself. First it happened with the larger one then the same thing happened with the smaller one. I tried hammering them back into place but that ended up to be a temporary fix because they came loose again. Now I have to look for a new salt and pepper mill.

Do not buy!!
I threw out the box because I loved the look of the product and trusted the Rachel Ray brand. However, it’s been only about a month of owning this and it has already crapped out on me. The metal mechanism has fallen out of the top on the grinder, as pictured in someone else’s review, making it no longer usable. The clear plastic piece that allows you to see through the shakers (a part of the product that I originally liked because you could see when they needed to be filled) slips out every time I go to fill them. Not to mention that both shakers do not hold much salt or pepper, so you are constantly refilling them. Unfortunately, I have missed the return window and like I mentioned before, I threw away the packaging so I am stuck with 2 useless shakers and am out $30.

Modern and compact!
We really liked the look of this set as it wasn’t the traditional style but still organic looking (as in not metal!). It was a bit smaller than I had pictured but is actually a good size for the table!

Déçu
Ils ne sont pas très solide, ils ne fonctionnent pas très aisément, j’ai comme l’impression qu’ils ne vont pas durer très longtemps, avec le prix j’aurais espéré une qualité supérieure :(

Broken within first two weeks
Pepepr grinder broke within the first two weeks, looks nice but does not appear to hold up to normal use.

Not as avertised
This was not as advertised - we got two short ones, no size differential between the two.Not sure what to do really - it's quite disappointing but in the world of online retail, seems trivial to return.Boo urns.
