Not necessarily waterproof but if you take it to like Splash Mountain , or any water ride, you should be fine. Shouldn’t worry too much on if it will damage your phone or anything inside your backpack. (:

I fit my full length wallet, make up bag, sunglass case, sanitizer, pill box and still had room.

It is not meant for a tablet or ipad, but I have carried one in it.

Q: What can you put in the side pockets?

A phone (my Pixel 3xl fits in the side pocket), change, business cards, pencils, or a small note pad. I've seen my granddaughter squeeze her narrow water bottle in the side pocket. The water bottles I use won't fit in the side pocket. My daughter and I love using our mini backpacks when we go to trade shows. We keep our business cards in the pocket on one side, and the ones we get we put in the pocket on the other side.
