The size is kind of small probably because it was designed for unisex. A medium size is like the size of a small swim cap for male.

It runs small (and short), so I would buy a large regardless of your head shape. But besides the size the hat is super comformable, and well made. The silicone is thick enough so it won't easily tear up like most other hats when you extend them too much. It protects well, yet does not leave marks on your forehead. Your hair will get a little wet though, protected but wet. I would buy again

My head is not large but this XL is too tight and gives you a headache. The majority of the cap is fine, the problem is there is a tight band all the way around the edge which is just too tight, even if you stretch it a lot before each use. The tight band seems to cut off the blood and gives you a headache if you are training for more than 15mins. Have a variety of caps from other brands like Tyr and Speedo and they don't give me this problem. The Arena Aquaforce wave cap is even tighter and they only go up to a size L (no XL).
