The Douay-Rheims Bible has many good stories, but principally, it is believed by Christians to be the inspired word of God, and as such is unique. There is an alphabetical contents listing all the Books contained in the Bible and the pages where they may be found. Then a list of the abbreviations of the names of the Books in this edition of the Bible. Next, the preface followed by an encyclical letter of thirty-nine pages by Pope Leo XIII The first sentence begins with: The God of all Providence, followed by the headings: Holy Scripture Most Profitable to Doctrine and Morality ; What the Bible Owes to the Catholic Church; How to Study Holy Scripture; Holy Scripture and Theology, Interpretation, the Fathers; The Authority of Holy Scripture, Modern Criticism, Physical Science; Inspiration Incompatible with Error; Summary. Then a prayer before reading Holy Scripture taken from Ephesians 3: 14, 17, 19 and a prayer after reading Holy Scripture from St. Bede the Venerable died 735, quoting from 1 Corinthians 13: 8; 2: 2. The next heading is: The Old Testament followed by the Book of Genesis: Chapter 1, verse 1: In the beginning God created heaven, and earth.The Old Testament having forty-six Books finishes with the Book of Maccabees. The New Testament having twenty-seven Books starts with the Gospel of Saint Matthew and finishes with the Apocalypse.This edition of the Holy Bible is in a perfectly readable size of font and is very good value for money and can be thoroughly recommended, as literature and doctrine most profitable to morality.

It would be 5 stars if the colour or font would change in some way for when Jesus is speaking.

I'm very pleased with this Bible. Its pages are thin but not too thin were you worry about tears since you should be treating it with a careful respect anyway (the alternative would be a much thicker/heavier book, the size is perfect without being too big/small). Most importantly the text is readable which was my biggest concern. Delivery to the UK was very quick (much quicker than expected). The attached picture/s is with an A5 book alongside.The reason for only 4 stars is what others have pointed out, the inside cover pages, white with garish blue crosses, it really takes away from a beautifully made book. It would have been classier and perhaps simpler to use plain black pages with a small gold Cross? I honestly can't fathom why they chose such an awful inside cover? Having said that; I still highly recommend and I'm considering getting the pages recovered myself, thats how much I love this book. Now I'm looking into buying the Haydock's version because I would love to read his highly recommended commentary.The world is going through some really awful and challenging times for every Country. Keep the faith not only in God but in humanity people, we got this however dire 'they' are trying to make it. We have all suffered enough death and destruction through wars and famines, let's not add to that toll, stay safe!✌
