You can open the door with the app or the button on the control panel above the door. The collar is for your pet if you want them to open the door when they walk up to it.

Is the door insulated for cold climates?

Not really insulated, but let’s in no cold air when closed. The other dog doors we used in the past would let in cold air even when the security panel was put in. This is far better at keeping out cold than other products I have used.

Is this a wall mount only ? Or can it be added to exterior door ?

These are sold normally as exterior door mounted. The only thing different is a wall mounted one also needs a "tunnel" which you can buy additionally or make your own out of wood and paint/seal the wood.
