If you want to learn many of the fine details of writing apps for your Mac
The book is well done, and the only reason it isn't 5-star for me is that 2/3 of the book shows how to write iOS apps. The book is written for the typical Apple app developer, and most of them are only interested in iOS development. If you want to learn many of the fine details of writing apps for your Mac, look someplace else. Five stars for iOS, three for MacOS, I'll compromise on four

The book has lots of nice inline graphics to show where to find buttons and ...
I agree that the content is, in fact, out of date (or just incorrect?). I bought the first edition and was working my way through finding lots of inconsistencies between the book and what I was actually seeing in Xcode. So I bought the second edition, thinking it would be up to date (published 4 months before I bought it). I confirmed that I was running the right versions of Swift and Xcode. (The book only specifies major revision number.) It's extremely frustrating trying to troubleshoot something I'm also trying to learn. The book has lots of nice inline graphics to show where to find buttons and menus on the very busy Xcode interface, but many of them just don't match what I see. I would blame apple for making changes that are not backward compatible, but even the first link to the book's website doesn't work. I have bought several other O'Reilly books and been very satisfied with them. They really dropped the ball on this one.Can anyone suggest a better book for learning Swift?

This book is already obsolete for Mac development.
This book is already obsolete, if you want to do MacOS development. The example in this book uses XIBs to develop the user interface. The templates or MacOS apps in the latest versions of XCode do not have an option to not use storyboards for a new project. While there seem to be ways to work around this, these don't appear to be for beginers, and don't seem to be covered in this book.I bought this book because I'm moving from Objective C to swift, and adopting storyboards for MacOS development. I'm sorry I bought it. It might be OK for iOS, but not for MacOS and I'm not sure about 'beyond'.

Serious flaws.
I agree this book has some serious flaws. It reads nice and clear. However, when you start to follow the examples and code provided, you realize it doesn't work, so you spend a lot of time trying to fix the errors. Perhaps because Apple keeps changing things, but this makes the book outdated, and a waste of time if you are trying to learn this for the first time. Not sure if there is a better book out there. However, this one is currently useless.
