New 2017 album from the Texas titan and Emmylou Harris collaborator! Cameos by John Paul White (The Civil Wars), Rosanne Cash and Sheryl Crow.

The Houston Kid does it again!!
My favorite album since "Fate's Right Hand" and "Houston Kid." Amazing story telling lyric that takes you on a journey into Rodney's past and his early friendships. This is a really high quality vinyl pressing and a joy to listen to.

Excellent
I heard Rodney talking about this album on satellite radio before it came out. The moment I heard It Ain't Over Yet I knew I was buying this album. Such a great song, John Paul White is the perfect fit on it, as is Roseanne Cash. So many great songs on this very personal album by one of the greatest around.

Distinct writing style and voice that's been there and done alot. + Great sex appeal !
How could I have forgotten how much I love him and respect his song writing. The Grammy nominated "It Ain't Over Yet" (and beaitiful bookend video) should win. I cannot listen to 90% of what's called country these days. This moving tune is classic..in that it will live on. "Body Like A Back Road" are the types of so called country music that give unexposed listeners the notion that country tunes are cheesy songs that all sound alike. I bought 2 copies of the album...one 4 auto, other for home.Stay well. We want you here making music.

Gem of an Album!
What more can you say? If you are a Rodney Crowell fan, getting this anew lbum should be a no-brainer. As expected, this is another jewel of an album by Rodney. I swear, this guy is just getting better with age.Use the old "fine wine" analogy or not, but this is truly a wonderful collection of heartfelt songs, perhaps his best album yet, and that's saying something. Any fan of this underrated singer-songwriter needs to add this album to their collection. Highly recommended!

Yet another great album from a master
Stories get richer and a bit more mellow as we grow older. This album is a great snapshot of life as seen by one of the best singer / songwriters of our time. If Forty Miles From Nowhere doesn't bring back some old (or not so old) memories and melancholy then you've been living by yourself too long.

Unique, interesting
I have followed Rodney Crowell and Rosanne Cash's careers since I was an FM country radio jock in the 80's. This is a retrospective album of sorts. The single "it ain't over yet." is a great song about aging, and since I am about the same age as Rodney Crowell, I can relate. I think its a very unique album. Definitely not main stream, by today's standards. Which is nice

A Mostly Great Americana Work
As usual, Rodney's lyrics are what stand out, with the music being the icing on the cake. His voice is still in top form. This is a mostly mellow Americana album and a bit autobiographical. This one is my favorite of his since Sex And Gasoline. Just skip the Sheryl Crow song I'm Tied To Ya, which breaks up the flow of an otherwise stellar album. Lyrics are included in the booklet with the CD.

His best!
Rodney has hit it out of the park on Close Ties, his new album of original songs for and about the troubadours of our generation, including our beloved David Olney who gets a nod in Nashville 1972. Other gems include Life Without Susanna, East Houston Blues, and of course his pick hit, It Ain't Over Yet. The kid has arrived.
