An Incredible Collection From A Class A Vocalist!
It's hard to imagine someone NOT familiar w the name Melba Moore, she has been singing for over 40 years! This first ever Anthology Collection features a nice array of selections from 1975-1980, beautifully remasteredand a great way to either get familiar with or reacquaint yourself with the songtress repertoire. While many mayremember the superb, late Donna Summer as the reigning queen of the dance floor during this same period, Ms.Moore was right up in her heels, delighting the feet and filling your head with sound, in her own unique style. Not only are her biggest Disco hits featured, but also included are timeless R & B Ballads, Extended 12" Versionsand B Sides. As a fan, I recommend all her Re-issued and Re-mastered Cd's for purchase, as they all includewonderful album tracks, but if you don't have anything by Miss Moore, then this is an awesome collection to havefrom her early years.

A closer look to a super star.
Melba Moore has been around the block for quite sometime. Here's a collection of her songs to bring us back to the 70's and early 80's. BeforeHer success with Capitol records during the mid 80"s. Melba can go from one genre to another without losing her tag of a soul singer. Here are herlove ballads and dance hits to prove that she still one of the best female singers in this country.

Melba Moore: A Gift to the Ears and Heart!
Grace Jones once said, "I am no Melba Moore (or Loleatta Holloway)". Melba Moore is no ordinary singer. She's also an award winning actress and happens to be as cute as a million dollars on hot legs. Her vocal range is truly astounding, as is her ability to hold the longest notes on record. This collection of some of her earlier recordings is a good sample of her incredible talent. The included hits here are This Is It, You Stepped, Pick Me Up, Lean On Me, Standing Right Here, and the delectable I Am His Lady. The mood goes from beautifully soft to pounding sweat-dripping disco. There really isn't a bad track here, but that said and meant, there is an alternative collection out there called the Essential Melba Moore, which I prefer over this one because it contains some Melba tracks missing from this newbie that I absolutely can't live without, such as You Are My River, Free, Promised Land, and the extended version of Play Boy Scout. Either collection is worth having, but the Essential one, which may only be available as an MP3 album, is simply amazing. Thankfully, some of Melba's prize tracks appear on both collections, and an absolute favourite of mine is I Don't Know No One Else To Turn To. It is truly magical. Stay Awhile is just as special. The liner notes and sound quality are great and help to make this collection worthy of 5 stars. Melba's biggest hits came later with her Capitol Records tenure, so be sure to explore those too. There are some great female singers who will still be played hundreds of years from now: Aretha, Tina, Whitney, Diana, Sarah, Ella, Patti, Tramaine, Stephanie...Gloria, Donna, Esther, and Melba - in no particular order. Melba Moore is a gift to the ears and the heart and I am so very pleased to own a little piece of her stunning magic. Thank you, Melba - and SoulMusic.com!

Sumptuous soul and disco with beautiful sound quality
It's taken me a while to get round to getting this and listening to it; it's a shame I hesitated because it's just so good. This collection of material from Melba's time on the Buddah label (1975-1977) and Epic label (1978-1980) is a glorious experience to listen to.CD1, The Buddah Years, is soulful while CD2, The Epic Years, has much more uptempo material. Sound quality is simply sublime, as though Melba is in a room somewhere beyond the speakers, surrounded by all the instruments. There's clarity, warmth and dynamics really making the most of those vocals and those arrangements. It's immersive and a joy to listen to, with no glitches, brickwalling or vinyl rips. Remastering on this anthology was by James Bragg, whose work I hope we might hear a lot more. There are eight 12" versions included. While others have moaned about an apparently missing beginning on This Is It, I feel it's churlish to deduct any points for it because a) I didn't even notice it; b) it's how it always appears on every CD release. What surprises me more than anything about this song is that the 12" version only clocks in at 4.45mins; you'd expect there to have been a longer disco mix, or for someone like Tom Moulton (who mixed the standard 12") to have created one since.Of course, there were album reissues of Melba's material by Funkytowngrooves and you might wonder if you're getting anything that hasn't already been on those. The answer, surprisingly, is yes. This anthology gives us Burn (UK Remix) 6.01mins, which wasn't on those reissues. The UK Remix was also called Special Disco Remix and that was a bonus track on the reissue of the album Closer but it ran 7.07 and looks like it was erroneously a repeat of the full-length album version from the previous album, Burn. So it looks like we get the correct UK Remix/Special Disco Remix at last. There's a 24-page booklet too with a detailed biography/essay about the artist, plus credits and a discography.

Always ready for more Melba
Another fantasic singer with the philly sound.Produced by MCFadden and Whitehead. And also by Van McCoy.Delightful string section. Some numbers here are very odd, and does not belong here. But most numbers are wonderful. "This is it."

Buyer beware!
It's an interesting collection, but if you are buying this based on your love of Melba's biggest hit 'This Is It', you may like to know that my copy has the introduction of the track missing. Disappointing - and being returned until they sort this out.

Fantastic collection. Melba's earliest work is included and has a more rock vibe which is interesting to hear. The classic Van McCoy productions are great. Her biggest UK hit "This is It" does sound as if the intro has been "clipped". Overall a high quality collection
