Buying art supplies can be risky online.I wanted a set of hard pastels to give to a good artist friend. We have painted together for years and years(like 25 years). We needed a change of pace, though. We decided we would buy each other the materials for our next projects.This is what I got her. This is a large set and probably is more than you’d want if a beginner. The hardness on the pastels is perfect. It is important that the pastels don’t dust themselves away. Blending sticks and gum erasers work well with these pastels. The pigments are rich, true colors that transfer to good paper without dust getting into the lighter colors of a picture. Cleaning these up is much easier than with soft pastels. A quick spray of hairspray or clear gloss will hold the pigment on paper. I love the wide variety of shades and hues. If I replace my older pastels for new ones,this is the set I will get . These are Not cheap art supplies.They are high quality pastels that every artists deserves to own.

The chalk is just ok. The colors are beautiful although they appear to be a bit shorter than expected. I also noticed chips and flakes in box when I first opened.

This set of 48 Artecho Square Chalk Premium, including 4 Fluorescent colours, arrived today. Every single one was in PERFECT condition - I say this because there are some folks who have said in their reviews that theirs arrived broken and complained that the packaging wasn't good enough. I have to say that the packaging on this set was very good, with two layers of foamy neoprene type packing on top of each of the layers of chalks and each individual chalk was nestled inside it's very own foam type 'bed', all this meant that any bumps during transit didn't break the chalks. I haven't tested every colour in the box, but I did test some and they were perfect. The colours are fabulous, and I could blend them easily just using my finger tip - although you will need to wash your hands otherwise you'll transfer the colours wherever you touch! (You can blend them using a scrap of old T-Shirt material to save your fingers!). The size of each chalk is [approx] 6.5cm and each one fits snugly into it's own cut out in the deeper foam. There are two layers of chalks. Each one can be removed from the box by using the little plastic tabs at the top and bottom of each layer, which is brilliant because it means it's easy to get the layers out, and easy to pop them back in the box when you've finished. I think they're great value for money and functional for all sorts of art or crafty purposes. They'd be lots of fun for children to use - but make sure you get them to wash their hands before they put their hands on the walls or furniture! All in all these really are very good value for money and I'm thoroughly pleased with them. Great for artists wanting to colour up or add even just a tint of something to a drawing. They're also fabulous for those folks who make their own miniatures (dolls house furniture etc) and like to use chalk to colour up their liquids of choice or items. I hope this review has been of help to you. I paid for my product and haven't received any incentive to give this product a 'glowing' review.
