Pyromania is the album that launched Def Leppard into rock legend status when it was released in 1983. It was the first to feature guitarist Phil Collen who had replaced Pete Willis and contains the hits ""Photograph"" and ""Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)"" both huge singles all over the world. It reached #2 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and put the band into arenas all over the world.

Incredible Value: Best DL Deluxe Set Yet
Of all the Def Leppard Box Sets released in the last few years, this is the most satisfying so far.First off, the book: The essay is very in-depth and enjoyable to read. There are also many many pictures here I haven't seen before, unlike some of the previous sets which reused a lot of the pictures available in The Definitive Visual History book. Having the lyrics printed is also a nice treat.Second, the extra cds. Although the Forum show has now been released three times in its entirety, the Germany show and demos disk more than make up for including repeated content. The demos in particular are very interesting. This is the first time that I'm aware of that DL has released an in-depth listening experience of their working process. Some of the riffs that never went anywhere sound like they could have been developed into amazing songs had the band continued exploring them.Lastly, the Blu-Ray, in my opinion is the real selling point here. We finally have spatial audio of a classic DL studio album, and this is one perfectly suited to this setting. Hearing the amazing layered backing choruses in Atmos, particularly on "Foolin'" and "Rock of Ages" is a real treat! The new stereo mix is also fantastic. I was skeptical that even the great Giles Martin could improve on what was already a meticulously mixed album, but I was more than surprised. Martin brings the same clarity and hi-fi sparkle to this album as he did his Beatles remixes without damaging the integrity of the recording. The instrumental mixes are also spectacular. To be able to hear just how much detail there is in these songs even without the huge vocals on top really shines light on what an amazing producer and arranger "Mutt" Lange was.In conclusion, worth every penny and a must have for true DL fans. Would love to have a blu-ray with remixes of Hysteria for its fortieth if such is possible, even though we already got a decent box set for the thirtieth anniversary. (I've heard it might not be possible to remix Hysteria as performance was added during the final mixing but fingers crossed anyway)

Excellent box if you want to upgrade
The 40th Anniversary edition box of Def Leppard "Pyromania" is a success. To me the most important content is the blu-ray with the high resolution audio: 24 bit, 48 kHz in both 5.1 and stereo mixes, Atmos mix and even an instrumental mix. The sound is amazing and incredibly balanced in surround and in stereo. They did a fantastic job with this, the album that set the bar for everyone else in the "Arena Rock" crowd in the 80's.The blu-ray also contain the videos from the hits in the album, which never looked and sounded as good as in here. The second best of the contents is the book with plenty of photographs and a detailed narrative of the album recording and what it meant for everyone who was rock and rolling in those days. Did you know Thomas Dolby (from "She blinded me with science" fame) contributed with keyboard playing? Since he did not want his name to be included in the album (wonder why?) he choose the pseudonym "Booker T. Boffin".As for the cd's I really do not care much about the live stuff, but cd 1 contains a new remaster which is cleaner and without the distortion of the earlier deluxe cd version. It really sounds great! So do not wait and grab your copy, you will be glad you did. “Gunter Glieben Glauten Globen”.

Best rock album of the 80's. This box set solidifies that fact.
Nothing really to say here. Greatest rock album of the 80's. Photograph changed everything for a lot of people. Song to this day is still top 10 on my list. Hearing all this just puts me in a good mood and brings me back to a decade that just ruled music wise.Worth the purchase if you are a fan of this album. Great collection. Great band. great fun hearing it in a new way.

Another Quiet $20 LP
Picked this vinyl up for $20, super quite, great soundstage with my headphones.Buy this + Hysteria and you have the vast majority of Def Leppard's best songs. I feel both albums amazingly still had songs that didn't become singles but easily could have been and that says a lot, especially for Hysteria.

Good box but a tad underwhelming...
It's fine, happy I got this DL Pyro 40th set, but not all that much more than what was reissued before...the packaging in the 10x10 slipcase box is the same as the prior "Early Years" set, which is fine...happy that LA Forum set is included, even though it's been on prior sets like the 2CD Pyro deluxe & the 1st albums box...still waiting in anticipation of what will be in the final Volume 4...what's new on this set first is the book, which is cool...love the revelation by Joe that DL is more connected to New Wave people than the old guard bar Queen & Bowie & others from the early 70s UK glam movement...I knew about Thomas Dolby's ("She Blinded Me With Science") heavy involvement with this record, doing all the keyboards & programming, but also happy with the Philip Oakley/Human League connection/inspiration too, being both are from Sheffield, cool seeing nods from various artists as well...OK, happy about the BluRay with the various spatial Dolby Atmos mixes by Giles Martin & related videoclips included...but Disc 2 was the underwhelming part that docks a star for me...the unreleased song "No You Can't Do That" I thought was going to be a proper outtake & proper song...nope, just an instrumental although kind of a cool intro riff but that's it...then the 6 untitled demos are just a random assortment of riffs & ideas from the band's "bucket of riffs", no hooks or songs or anything, just a 1 listen, then the demos of songs are instrumental versions (no vocals), ok, 1 listen, then the rough mixes are not much different from the final album if at all, the version of "Photograph" with alternate & unfinished vocal is no match for the finished version...in the end, I believe we reached the end of the road with a "Pyromania" box, not much more they can do with it...killer classic album it is no question...but after this set, there is nothing more they can add...time to move on to the followup to their last album, the amazing "Diamond Star Halos" & oh yeah "Drastic Symphonies" too...we can all move past the Pyro activity now...

I got something to say.....
.... Nice box set.Contains the remastered album on CD 1; demos, out takes and mixes on CD 2; a 6 track show from Germany on CD 3; and the LA show (again) on CD 4. Plus you get the album in Dolby Atmos, DTS 5.1, stereo and instrumentals of the album plus 6 videos from the era.The second CD contains a bunch of snippets from unused tracks, a demo and a studio version of a non-album track and the various other demos and alternate mixes. The third CD is not even 30 minutes and contains 6 live tracks. Unsure why, but when I looked at the set list, it was just 6 tracks listed/played but the night before they did a full concert at the same venue. The fourth CD contains the same show as the deluxe edition release a while back. This is actually and incomplete show as two guitar solos were removed. They could of added one of the two in but didn't. The solos are from Clark and Colleen. I guess they didn't want to upset one if the other got their solo included,Aside from the mixes on the Blu-ray, the six videos from the album were included. Too bad they did not clean up the videos. Colour quality, brightness and garbage in the video. Too bad they couldn't get the band to get together to chat about it a bit. Such as talking about Willis's departure.
