I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Dreidel

Fun variation on the theme
I bought this for a friend who is a children's librarian at an elementary school, to add to her holiday collection. She read this aloud to her younger students, and declared the book to be fun and interesting. Kids apparently loved it. If your child loves the "I know an old lady" theme, this is definitely a winner! (Even fun for those who are not Jewish, as it introduces kids to cultural concepts.)

A must-have for Hanukah fun!
Caryn Yacowitz's "I Know an Old Lady who Swallowed a Dreidel" is a must have for Hanukah fun. It's a clever, rolllicking and rightly absurd take on the classic "I Know an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly." Much much funnier though with silly rhymes and just the right impossible humor that kids love. To heighten the fun, David Slonim's illustrations, are comical take offs of famous paintings. This is a book to tickle the funny bones of both children and their parents. Highly recommend it.

Hanukkah Book
Love this book. My class really enjoys "the Little Old Lady..." books and this was a cool way to teach them about Hanukkah.

A Chanukah Tradition!
I told my granddaughter to find this book on her shelf so I could read it to her when I visit before Chanukah. She proudly exclaimed,"I already have it next to my bed!" She loves the song/story and is wild about the illustrations! What a clever way to present classic paintings and be able to talk about the artists! It also reviews all the special items/foods we think about associated with Chanukah!Bravo to the author and illustrator!

My grandchildren are familiar with the other "I know an old lady" books and easily added this to their favorites list
This book was bought for 2 gifts--for my grandchildren and as a new baby gift. My grandchildren are familiar with the other "I know an old lady" books and easily added this to their favorites list. The new born has it on his shelf of children's books to grow into. I look forward to opportunities to read it in both situations. It is light, humorous, and causes laughter by the kids. This book will be kept around for a long time.

Read reviews before purchasing!!!
My son chose this book bc he’s a big fan of all the “I know an Old Lady…” stories. However…reading this to him and having dreidel rhyme with FATAL, is NOT appropriate for a 5yr old! I stopped the story, and returned the next day.

I loved this book - it's funny and warm and funny ...
I loved this book - it's funny and warm and funny and delicious and yup, funny! The entire idea and conceit of the book is so clever. But the best part is that it fulfills a real need, an opportunity to introduce all the key ideas and words of Chanukah to a young audience with wonderful illustrtations plus! an opportunity to sing along with it. I bought 4 copies as gifts and now buying four more- a must have Chanukah gift for every child! And save one for yourself!

Funny way to introduce to great works of art to young children!
Such a fun book and I love, love, love the introduction to great works of art and the way they were worked into the story. A perfect way to bring new knowledge of great works of art to the younger generation. Also, it was in excellent condition and arrived quickly. Thanks.
