Quality product with fantastic optics for the price
This monocular is worth every penny. Clear image, robust and waterproof. The ED version is what I purchased and it’s ideal. Big enough to let enough light in for low light use, small enough for a decent pocket and easy to operate. Yes the focus wheel requires patience as it’s slower to rotate than others but that’s really not an issue to me. Makes you feel it’s more sturdy than anything else. Hardly stops you operating it. Really pleased I bought this for wildlife use and the 8x magnification is more than enough to make it really useful. The case isn’t anything to get excited about but it does the job. Made a veg tan leather one for mine so the finished package is now complete. All I need to do now is not lose it like my last Opticron! If you’re lucky enough to be able to afford one, I certainly recommend getting one.

Optics are good, the focusing wheel is stiff.
Sharpness and brightness are good. The image loses a little sharpness near the edges, but this is normal even for expensive binoculars. However, as the field of view is wider than average, one could say that the image stays fully sharp till the edges of an average field of view. The focusing wheel is inconveniently stiff, which causes the view to shift while focusing. Also, a tripod socket is lacking. You can get an attachment at extra cost, but that's not as convenient, and one shouldn't have to do it.

Impressive!
I bought this after ordering a cheaper item, that turned out far too big for my needs. This one is solidly built and oozes quality. Easliy fits in a jacket pocket. Once focused at a distant subject you really done' have to re-focus often. Really bright and clear image. I bought the 8x42, would have loved to been able to compare it against the 10x42. None the less it's a really great bit of kit!

Great for the price.
I was looking for something to take out with me on my walks but didn't want the bulk of a pair of binoculars. This slips in my pocket and I am really pleased with the performance so far. I am not a technical person regarding optics but I can see every thing I want clearly so it suits me. Size( roughly about the size of a the tube on a toilet roll, maybe slightly smaller diameter!),portability and quality of the image where the main points for me and it ticks those boxes. It also feels like a well made piece of kit. Comes with lens caps, carrying pouch with strap and loop to attach to your belt. Lost my lens cap during the first week and Opticron sent me a replacement for free, excellent customer service. The only downside was I noticed that adjustment seemed to be a bit tight, but the more I am using it it seems to be getting easier. I would not have any problems recommending it for the price.

Great for Birdwatching
This is perfect for birdwatching. It’s lighter than binoculars and easy to acquire the target - especially if you are in a car/van. The optics are excellent and let in plenty of light. My only slight issue would be the stiffness of the focus but you get used to it

Easy to use and great visionclarity
Purchased monocular for my wife as binoculars can't cope with her differing left/right eyesight. The monocular gives excellent clarity and my wife finds it easy to focus. We use it mostly for birdwatching.

Optics not matched by dials
Stupendously great optics, sadly, very stiff to focus and the eye piece has broken, as now has the large focus dial which needs to be squeezed tightly to get a grip. Wonderful vision with it but the plastic round about it is as bad as the optics are good.

Great optics.
Very good quality glass, a well made solid monocular. Opticron could work on providing better quality lens caps which stay in place in the field, but overall a very good quality product which should last for years.

The delivery was on time. The unit is lightweight and easy to use. The construction is high-grade. I suggest not going with the 10x42 because with the 8x42 it can already be a little shakey if you don't brace your arm. I struggled with this choice as there are so many units to choose from online. I am extremely satisfied with my final choice of the 8x42. It is light, has great magnification, no distortion, and excellent low-light visibility. The eye cap can be easily lost as it is not secured. I resolved this by threading the supplied strap through the eye cap and now it is secure. All in all a great high-quality unit.
