Should be part of your library - you will want to re-read it in the future
No matter how long you have been proclaiming Christianity, there will be wonderful nuggets and reminders about God given grace and our free will. Amazing insights into how God uses men's hearts to direct their free will to accomplish what He desires. A humbling reminder. This is a fabulous book for those who wonder about the movement of God - just have your bible ready and close by!

Incredible insight.
Augustine had an incredible insight into the connection of grace and free will. Like with all theological works I have read, there were a few points that were a bit unclear in my opinion. The first couple paragraphs of chapter 46 were the most odd but all of that is overshadowed by the rest of the work! I would recommend this book to everyone.

No wonder we still ready St Augustine 15 centuries later
This brief book collects the writings of St Augustine on the doctrines of grace and salvation, in response to the early "heresy" of Pelagius. It provides a clear and understandable explanation of accepted Christian teaching on grace and salvation, and outlines quite cogently the Pelagian viewpoint. Point by point, St Augustine addresses the Pelagian thinking on grace and salvation and where it is in error. This is very accessible to a lay reader. You don't need to be working on an MDiv to understand what St Augustine is talking about.

Enjoy the introspective thoughts of the author regarding his faith.
Good book for the bedside reading as the thoughts quiet the mind. And, it gives hope.

Teachings that come from God
At the end of this great treatise on the problem of free will and God's will and Pelagian's ( spelling?) teachings he says for us to pray for understanding. I think this is good advice as this is difficult to understand where God's will ends and man's begins, and which is which in our lives.

St. Augustine's hypothesis of God's sovereign grace and human kinds free will.
St. Augustine wrestles with the age old question of allowing for God's sovereign grace and human kind's free will. He incorporates the use of Old and New Testament scriptures as well as the Apocryphal writings to lament his hypothesis. Since the beginning of time human kind has struggled with personal will and the sovereignty of God. Augustine's work is a classic treasure and in spite of the difficulty of the question a very good read. I highly recommend it for the Protestant as well as the Catholic. I graduated from seminary over 20 years ago therefore having been out of academia for so long I like to occasionally pick up an ageless classic. It certainly was well worth the time.

Ancient Wisdom
I discovered in this book wisdom that has always existed. Grace is received from God and we respond with good works because we have received grace from God.I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

To read Augustine, written in the 600’s, when the church was fresh and young, is to deepen our understanding and faith in Almighty God and His Son, come for the pardoning of man.
