More Than You Can Chew

A comprehensive collection from the creators of Celtic Rock
I loved "The Book Of Invasions", "Aliens" and "The Man Who Built America" when they came out back in the 70's, This boxed set contains all of these, and all of their other studio albums, including a CD full of previously unreleased tracks. There are also many live albums and sessions they did for radio and TV, their comeback studio album (2004), RTE (Irish TV and radio) sessions (2005), and live album (2010). There are also solo and collaboration albums from each of the five members after they disbanded in 1980. 33 CDs in all, plus two DVDs of RTE sessions and other live shows.More Than You Can Chew? Well, with 33 hours of CDs, plus a few hours of DVDs, take it one bite at a time. All of the disks are worth listening to, and watching. Overall, a brilliant box set.It has been reported that only 1750 copies of this box set have been produced. So get it while you can.It is expensive, but worth it. I am glad that I bought it.

More than you can chew indeed and some
Having bought the remastered CDs with the original packaging a couple of years ago after the first terrible CDs i thought that would be the end of it & then out of the blue this massive box appeared and after much should i shouldn't i i bit the bullet and decided ok and i'm glad i did, not only do you get 30 plus Cds and a couple of dvds but a book with all the lyrics to every song the wrote and an over 200 page hardback book on all the albums included. as for the pressing themselves i do think they are infact a touch better sounding from the previous issues, and they were great, if you have them keep them as i said they do have all the original artwork, unlike these ones which have the covers but in the gatefold lots of promo information from each albums release, you also get most of the solo albums the members released with a few exceptions, the only thing missing really is the live with the ulster orchestra for some reason? is it worth the upgrade? i actually think yes and hopefully this is the last word on the band. as a big fan it's essential if you're new to the band and are thinking what albums should i go for then this is it, if you can afford it as it's a big outlay and get it before it goes as there are only 1750 copies i'm told

Impressive.
I can't remember when I first came across Horslips, probably early 70s, but Dancehall Sweethearts and The Unfortunate Cup of Tea seem to have been in my vinyl collection forever, and regularly played. In recent years I've been tracking down the other vinyl albums and also bought several albums on CD. I thought my collection covered pretty much everything, but this collection adds stuff I'd not come across before. The collection itself is beautifully presented. Both the lyrics book and the book of the albums are a joy to browse through, with lots of photos and interesting facts. I'm gradually working my way through the CDs and rediscovering tracks I'd forgotten, plus finding new ones I've never heard before from the solo albums. I can't comment on whether the remastering has improved the sound or not, as CDs sound different to vinyl, but to my aging ears, and on a system with a valve amp, they sound pretty good.Horslips are a much underrated band, and deserve a wider audience. Sadly, the original lineup will never play together again following the death of Johnny Fean, but this collection keeps them all alive for posterity. Yes, it is an expensive box, but for the quality of the whole package, and the wonderful memories it holds, it's priceless. I just wish I'd had the opportunity to see them live.

Huge and expensive box set, but if you're a fan definitely worth every penny
I was a bit wary about buying this, given the price, but I'm delighted so far - I haven't got through half of the CDs yet. The weight of the package alone is quite impressive, largely thanks to the excellent book included. It was really nice to get a Tracks From The Vault vol.2, and the full live sets that had been used to provide some of the bonus tracks on the last lot of CD reissues. All the RTE stuff was completely new to me too.One minor quibble, I have some poor quality recordings I made as a teenager of BBC Radio 1 In Concerts (and a Sounds of the 70s session) from the 1970s - for the 1974 one I borrowed my Dad's reel to reel tape recorder and microphone, and by 1979 I had a cheap cassette recorder so the sound quality on that isn't quite so terrible. I was really hoping these might be included as the BBC seem to churn out archive recordings by all and sundry these days.Anyway, it's obviously not something for the casual listener to pick up, but if like me you've followed Horslips since the 1970s it's absolutely essential.

Beautyfull represention album collection
Although I was unfortunate to see the Horslips playing live I adore their music and in so the albums released from 1972 on, which are true gems in their own richt. This box set offers more than 30 cd’s plus Dvd and two books. Too much to listen to in short time after receiving but I am impressed. Almost all recorded material is presented in high resolution. Everything I know and far more I was not aware of. Brilliant! Hats of to each band members. Johnny Fean, guitar player extra ordinaire, R.I.P.

Exquisite
Whst can one say, other than exquisite? Have loved Hirslips ever since hearing "Time to kill" on a BBC Northern Ireland drama, "Shadows on our skin" in the 70s. Bought the shamrock shaped disc of"Loneliness" in 1979 when I was 15. Have been listening non stop since getting this. And I love the Beatles joke on the sleeve of "Drive the cold winter away"!! A message to U2 -this is what an Irish looks like!!
