Best when viewed with a "Sheet Magnifier" as much of it is printed in 6 Point type.
If you are familiar with their show, or their magazine you have an idea what is in the book, which is heavy and thick. If printed in a larger typeface, the book would be broken up into about 4 or 5 volumes. With that said: their intention and the recipes in the book- if followed step by step with no substitutions except those they may suggest, your results will usually be great. There is other information within the book too, so very worthwhile for just about anyone, especially in this day and age when so many people are challenged with or limited to just making soup from a can. But there is also lot in there for well seasoned chefs as well.

Best cookbook around
You’d be hard-pressed to find a better, more complete cookbook. These people know how to develop a recipe and, importantly, how to write it down in unambiguous terms. No home cooks here - these are professional food scientists and highly experienced cooks. This is my go-to recipe book. My one complaint, which is common amongst ATK fans, is that you need to double all their spice quantities, but once you’ve mastered that, all the recipes are reliable. One other comment: this cookbook has gotten big enough through the years that it may be time to make the next edition two volumes. A bit unwieldy.

Has everything!
The photos of the recipes dont even begin to touch the surface of how many recipes are ACTUALLY in this book! I used to watch this show back in the day and always liked it, so I came across this book on Amazon while looking for different magazines and decided to buy it. I knew people were complaining about how thick it is, shoot, more for the money! I love it! It shows different techniques, tons of recipes and photos! No complaints here. Honestly, books this thick usually go for $70/80. Bottom line, I'm glad I bought it!

Another great cook book plus a guide to the best equipment to get for your cooking!
This is one HUGE BOOK! If you have back issues, hum... It weighs a ton. There's well over a Thousand pages! It's packed with more information than most people will ever need to know how to make wonderful dishes and full meal. Best of all, the have a whole large chapter on equipment and products they use and have found to be the best for their recipes. The equipment they review is worth the price alone. For each item, the give at least one better model and one that will still work quite well for the money. My only gripe is that personally, for as much information as this book packs, it should have been done in at least 2 or even 3 volumes. The weight alone has made it quite hard for my wife to use. All that aside, it is a fantastic book!

Larger than expected.
This is a large cookbook and heavy .I would have preferred it to be in 2 volumes and larger type. I also would have liked references to TV series and more pictures of recipes. Other than that it is a impressive collection of recipes and I would buy it again.

ATK bible
Big fan of the actual show. Impressed by the science, tasting and test labs. The tome I just purchased could replace a few, but definitely not Lydia or Maryanne cookbooks

Extremely disappointed - terrible for people with any diet restrictions
i was really excited about getting this book. I'd looked through all the other books the Test Kitchen had to offer, and had found 4 or 5 that would help me in modifying my very restrictive diet. In my case - Mediterranean, Plant-Based, Vegetarian, Salads, Lighter Eating, Vegan - they offer so many great books that would help so many people! So it would only make sense to buy the complete book, right? Wrong. It's not organized that way. There is no way to look up all the "vegetarian" or "plant-based" recipes. Instead, you have to read through 1200 pages to find the recipes that might help you make better choices. If an alternate index was offered, even as a download, the book would be a goldmine for people that aren't on a "normal" diet. As more of us are eating healthier, either by choice or for medical reasons, this antiquated Table of Contents does us no favors:- Dinner at the Diner- Asian Favorites and More- Come for Brunch- Sides of Plenty, etc.Any of these chapters could hold a plant-based, or gluten-free, or low salt recipe - your guess is as good as mine. So put on your reading glasses and prepare to be overwhelmed, because if there are treasures here, they're well-hidden.

huge and heavy...
not sure how much use my wife will get out of this. it is soooo big...and i think this is one of those times that proves big is not always better. there are not any pictures for many recipes, the choices are too numerous, and it is unwieldly and hard to keep the page open while you use it. was considering returning for these reasons, but decided against it.

much too thick for regular use.
This book is much too thick. almost as the original Larousse Gastronomique. This book is very difficult to use in its present format, perhaps it should have been set us as 3 or 4 seperate books. I love the show and I am sure the recepies are great it is just the ease of usage that I find very difficult.
